Well the other day I made my first custom toy it is not the best but I'm proud of them!
it was a collection of Spreader Bars. The material costs were very cheap!

LOWES (Home Depot or any hardware store, I was at Lowes)
8' stain Fir Cut at the store for free into 24", 30", and 36" (6" piece left over) $7.99
Brainerd, 5, 1 23/26" Medium screw eyes (2 blister packs so 10 total) $.83 each
2 13/32" DBL Bolt S (double leash attachment thingly found in the same section as above) $1.67 each

PETsmart
2 hot pink 8" dog collars $2.99 each

Walmart or any Discount Store
1 3oz. can of Plastic-Kote Spray paint Hot Pink $1.97

using a nail I made a point hole for my screw eyes on each end of my 4 pieces of wood and then using a screw driver I put one eye screw on each end of my bars of wood I then using the Double S things listed earlier taped up the eye screw heads and the Double S leash thingy (a true techincal term ), hung them from one end and spray painted them with the fast drying enamel paint so that the bars would match the anklets (formerly known as little doggy collars) and then let them dry for 24 hours and applied a second coat and then removed the tape and now have a collection of Hot Pink girly spreader bars with matching anklets and soon to have cuffs and collar antoher set of little but might go with 10" and use those as anklets and have the 8" ones become the cuffs, and an 18" collar to use as well a collar! perhaps I'll get one of those cheap name tags from a machine.

I'll post a pic as soon as I'm able to borrow a camera I'm just wondering if any one else had a first project they were espcially proud of even if it is more advanced then my simple little set of Spreader Bars. My only complaint is that they allow a lot more wiggle room then I had hoped for, you can walk ok waddle/stumble around in them which i don't think you are supposed to be able to do but then again I'm sure that part of the use is just the feeling of them on and that *mental* loss of control.

oh and the cost?
$20.94 before tax
$22.52 after my local sales tax and state taxes.

Not bad for a set of Spreaders I think.

You might want to consider using a washer and screwing the doggie collar directly onto the spreader. That way when you tighten the collar around the wrsit or ankle, there is less leeway for movement. Use a flat headed screw and perhaps ducttape over it to prevent wounds to your playmate.
