When boys come calling for my daughter, 10 years from now, I will proudly show them a picture album of my precious daughter.  I will very quietly explain to them just how much we love and cherish her as well as the lengths to which I would go to protect her.

The last page of the album will be a picture of me with a hammer and nails showing quite plainly what I am prepared to do with them.  I don't predict too many problems.

LMAO that's the way to go

I can't for the life of me understand why one would want to intimidate a female relative's choice for a date, I mean if she isn't your daughter (or even if she is, if she's over 18) then what fucking business is it of yours who she dates or fucks. And to be honest if anybody had pulled any of those stunts on me when I was there to pick up a date I would have just laughed my ass off.
The whole idea is idiotic if you ask me (I know, I know, nobody did ask me....but what the hell)

*sigh* I still shake my head when I remember this one. My father is a big guy, and has a habit of hanging out with two big ass goons in suits. I say that affectionately, they're my godfathers. But good god they really do look like hired muscle. Back to the point! I was about 16, and my 18 year old date was pickingme up at my dads house. Bad move. He shows up at the door, and says Hi there, my name is XXXX, I'm here to pick up Jenna. My dad looks him up and down for a moment, and says "shes just getting ready, but come into the foyer and wait won't you? At which point his friends show up wearing dark suits and glasses. I'm just coming around the corner when I see my dad pick this poor kid up by his collar and enunciate, very clearly "You may know TaeKwon-Do, but I know tire iron. Make my baby cry, and I will fuck up your life." At which point one of my fathers friends just grinned malevolently, and the other one cracked his knuckles. I was rolling my eyes thinking "oh for gods sakes you middle aged idiots, there is no one stupid enough to fall for this godfather-mafioso bullshit!" apparently I was wrong, because the poor guy almost wet himself, wouldnt touch me all night, and never picked me up at my dads ever again.

Yea, if you look on the outside...
But my father totally meant it...he wasn't making an empty threat.
I know he wasn't...because about a year ago, Jon (my fiance) was being an asshole and my father asked if I wanted him to take care of it..I was so upset, I said: Yes.
Bad I idea.

My dad grabbed his gun and started stalking towards him, cocked back and everything.
Poor boy couldn't run out the door fast enough.

I would have been shot in that situation I guess. However, that just makes it seem even less of a good idea.....

I have a son, I have no say in the matter.

We all hear about the girl who's father is conveniently cleaning his shotgun when the new boyfriend comes over to meet him...or the protective big brother who has a "talk" with the new beau. Have any of your family members or friends said or done something to "intimidate" a new date?

No, but I have been on the receiving end of it.  Several years ago, I was dating an Asian man.  One time he took Me to a family gathering.  The adults were polite, but his niece (about 10 years old) was not happy about it.  I overheard her in the kitchen saying, "Why does he always have to date those English women?"  Later in the day, she came up and asked Me point blank, "You aren't going to marry my uncle, are you?"  I guess that was a 10-year olds attempt at being intimidating.

The impression I got was that the family was not happy at all about him dating Caucasian women, but were too polite to say so.  I think their attitudes and the comments they made in private rubbed off on the niece, who was a brazen little thing and not afraid to vocalize what the others were thinking.

Well, it didn't really intimidate Me all that much.  If I had developed a strong interest this man, I would have pursued a relationship despite what his family thought.  However, he really wasn't what I was looking for and we ended up drifting apart.

I've never felt the need to actively intimidate anybody, but everybody always describes me as "scary" and just my presence seems to influence the dates of people I know to be more polite.  When I was in high school people who were frequently being picked on would start hanging out around me to keep the bullies away.

I've also never had anybody try to intimidate me - despite having dated some girls with pretty aggressive fathers, but it's possible they were too intimidated themselves to confront me.

I have never really had anything like that happen as i was growing up.  I will state however that when my young ones get to the dating stage, i have a sign that should wrap up most doubt.

"I have a Handgun and PMS"  any questions?
