Cardiovascularly out of shape... Think McNabb is the next to get waived?

Lordandmaster -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (11/2/2010 12:44:53 PM)

It's incredible to me how these NFL coaches keep their jobs despite jaw-dropping underperformance. Wade Phillips? What the hell? He should have been fired weeks ago. Brad Childress? Last I heard, the owner himself didn't want to waive Moss. So why the hell is he keeping the coach? Look, as a coach, I don't think I could tolerate less than 100% effort either. But how do you go ahead and just waive a guy that your owner wants to keep--a month after you acquired him? These guys are egomaniacs. Shanahan is another guy squandering his "benefit of the doubt" honeymoon by trying to be the biggest badass on the practice field.

Edited to add: When was the last time a fan bought a ticket in order to watch the head coach?

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (11/2/2010 6:05:48 PM)

Okay, is Shanahan losing his mind?  Rumor:  JaMarcus Russell is trying out for the Redskins.  I agree LAM, there is a lot of head shaking going on regarding some of the NFL head coaches.  Wade Phillips will not last the season, if he does, I will be shocked.

flcouple2009 -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (11/2/2010 6:45:50 PM)

Firing Wade now would be pointless.  There is no one on that coaching staff that would make an even half way decent interim coach right now.  It is what it is and there's no purpose in messing with it.

The Vikings on the other had should give the boot to their head idiot.  Then they should give the job to Leslie Frazier as an audition for next years head coach.

Smart move on their part...now i hope the hell he doesn't come to St. Louis

Butch

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (11/3/2010 6:27:51 PM)

Titans claimed him off waivers.

Lordandmaster -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (11/5/2010 6:05:25 AM)

Only because the playoffs are out of the question now. Firing him three or four weeks ago, when it was already apparent that the effort was lacking, but a turnaround would still have salvaged the season, would not have been pointless.

I'm not a big Childress fan right now, but you guys have to concede that Favre shares at least as much of the blame for flushing the Vikings' season down the toilet. "You have to play me because I'm Brett Favre! I might have the lowest passer rating in the league right now, but I'm still Brett Favre and you wouldn't dare make yourself the reason why I lose my precious consecutive-games-played streak and anyway do you guys really want to go 6-10 with Tavaris Jackson when you could go 5-11 with me?"

The vikings as a team got what they deserve for begging Farve back

As far the Cowboys firing Wade at any point in the season makes no sense and wouldn't matter one bit.  That includes 3 or 4 weeks ago.  There is no one on the staff capable of taking over and making a difference.  This is Jerry's chickens come home to roost.

Mike Jenkins----Let his Pro Bowl selection  go to his head and seems to think just showing up is good enough
Anthony Spencer---also has seen to decided that after he came on strong the last half of the year he only needed to just show up as well
Kieth Brooking---Everyone seems to have missed the mark believing he had another good year left
Safety---Is there actually one on the team?  Jerry decided to roll with what was there even though everyone else thought the position was in serious trouble.
Offensive line---Again Jerry seems to have been the only person on the planet who thought the offensive line was good to go.  Jerry refuses to use to top picks on offensive line.  The line is dreadful which has shackled the entire offense.  Jerry let the Pro Bowl selections of Leonard Davis and Andre Gurode convince himself that the line was ok.  Davis was benched during one of the early games for lack of effort.
Jason Witten---Has become the brain fart master.  One stupid play after another.

That's just the tip.  The pieces of this disaster were all lined up before training camp ever started.  Firing Wade at any point wasn't gonna change a thing.

Jerry just gave Wade the kiss o'death.  "he's our guy".  Uh oh.

Jeffff -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (11/5/2010 7:42:42 PM)

I hope Wade has an updated resume.

Rubs hands together.  Perhaps the coaching carousel will arrive early this year.

cloudboy -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (11/5/2010 9:50:59 PM)

Its hard to find a quick fix at QB. Insiders report that Shanahan is anal and wants to run an offensive system, but McNabb is more of a laid-back, seat of his pants QB who makes plays.

No doubt WAS is pining for Sam Bradford now more than ever before. The irony is Jason Campbell lighting it up in OAK.

P.S. I think Bradford (STL) and Suh (DET) have HOF potential.

Lordandmaster -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (11/6/2010 12:40:09 AM)

It's a wee bit early for statements like that.

What is going on with McNabb and Shanahan?  Is Shanahan pining for Cutler?  I am sure he could be wrestled away from The Bears with little effort.

I will be in Lambeau Stadium tomorrow night to watch the Packers whip the boys...GO PACK..

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (11/6/2010 5:49:07 PM)

Lambeau - classic, old school football tradition.  Have fun.

Pittsburg fans travel well. I have met many of them when the Steelers play here. Great fans..

I have my crystal ball in hand. If my putt misses the cup, its still rolling over several future pro bowl selections. Bank on it!

First NFL game I ever attended was the Pittsburghs playing the Packers at Lambeau. My father took me, and somehow we had seats on the 45-yard line. God only knows how he managed that. I was about 7 or 8, and I thought it was the most amazing thing I'd ever seen. Maybe even the most amazing thing that had ever happened in the history of the human race. I still remember Boyd Dowler streaking down the right sideline like a gazelle, and Bart Starr dropping a perfect 30-yard pass right into the palms of his hands as he raced past us, as though it happened last night.

After the game, my dad took me to the parking lot to wait for the players to come out to their cars, and I got Starr's autograph, and Dowler's too. Ray Nitschke, Paul Hornung, and I think Carroll Dale all signed for me, too. Oh, and Elijah Pitts. I still have those autographs somewhere. Haven't looked at them in years, but for months afterwards I kept them on top of my dresser so I could see them every time I walked past. I had a vague conviction that somehow I was now elevated to a plane of existence somewhat higher than the level where most other people lived; I couldn't exactly explain why this was so, but I was pretty certain of it nevertheless.

A few years after that, I lived in Green Bay for a summer, and was fortunate enough to get a summer job at the Brown County Sports Arena across the street from the stadium, which housed the Packer Hall of Fame. I think I was 12. It was my first Actual Job. Part of the gig was that I got to sell popcorn at Lambeau for a couple of pre-season games, and I remember a sense of awe at the realization that at age 12, I was already experiencing the supreme  achievement of my life.

And you know, somehow that never really wore off. That place still has magic for me. Every time I drive by there, I feel as though a part of me is transported back to the night my father and I watched Boyd Dowler and Bart Starr lighting up the Steelers. Very few places on this earth have the power to move me in that way, and I'm frankly a little embarrassed to admit that a football stadium would be one of them. But, there it is.

I keep crossing my fingers and hoping to god that one of these times, they'll do us a favor and toss Mike McCarthy in the trunk of their car and haul his worthless ass back to Pittsburgh where he belongs.

Oh wowza!!  The cardiac kids (Jets) pulled that game out somehow.....
