Hmmm I've read the entire thread and I didn't see ONE mention of the 6-0 Chicago Bears.  Hmmmm.    I wonder why?

LOL E....... hey, just remember, your second greatest coach not only played in Big D, but was tutored there by Tom Landry .

Actually, I'm a fan of the Bears; I love good D, and Walter Payton is my favorite running back of all time.

Texas Stadium is not a dome harumph harumph.... it's an open air facility created so God can watch his team.

I just wikied and learned that you are getting a new stadium in a few years.  Completely closed?  Or does God still want to watch?

They're being a bit secretive about it, but as far as I know, it'll be a retractable roof. I'm sure it'll be first class, Jones hates being outdone, and the Cardinals have a fine ass stadium he'll want to match.

I am a Bills fan so NOBODY on this thread has more reason to sob than me. The current season is reason enough to sob but I can deal with it – hey, some years your team just sucks – but Bills fans have a sob story that will probably never be equaled. Not one, not two, not three, but FOUR Super Bowl appearances IN A ROW! And they couldn’t pull off one win? Except for the first one (the words "wide right" will haunt Bills fans forever) they really were just that – appearances. That is, as we like to say in Western New York, the Bills appeared to be on the field.

But I am no sunshine fan. I will stay loyal and continue to chant the Bills fan’s mantra which is NOT "wait until next year," but "please God, during my lifetime."

Actually, as a true Bills fan I have two favorite football teams, the Bills... and whoever is playing Miami.

Marc, you do have my sympathies. You can at least console yourself with knowing those Bills teams were first class, and deeply talented, things just went awry.

This brings the age old question of "is it better to have been in the Big Game and never won, than never been at all?"......

And you guys did win two AFL titles.

Second?  SECOND?

And I was privileged to know Mr. Payton just a bit, as I worked for his lawyers once upon a time.  We tend to mythologize the truly great, but even with the rose-colored glasses off, I don't think there was a nicer, more gentle man off the field, and of course, on the field -- as they used to say:  if the record was made in shoes...he set it.

Well, I figured you'd have Halas as numero uno .

And here's a video tribute to Payton. What a warrior.

Nah, Halas may have invented NFL football, and been a genius at motivating, but Da Coach will always rule Da Bears.

And aawwwww shit, the Peyton vid made me cry.  Thanks, man.

Let me get this straight.

I may have misheard.

Ditka, not Halas, "will always rule Da Bears"?

No problem .

And Ditka is still Ditka......... saw him on ESPN this afternoon talking to Michael Irvin, the subject was Mike Vick. Ditka's advice to Vick? "Shut up and keep throwing to your tight end.".......

Um excuse me; the Bears haven’t played anybody worth a shit yet? Seattle is the defending NFC champs and they got their ass handed to them. Packers, Lions are going no where fast, I will give you that one. Vikings, thanks for playing. Ya gotta play 4 quarters boys. Buffalo, spanked. Cardnials, too bad so sad. We’ll see what happens when the snow flies. Bring your pansy ass dome teams & warm weather teams up here and play in the cold & the snow. 6-0 and counting.  GO BEARS!!!!!!!

My two favorite teams: CHICAGO BEARS  and whoever plays Green Bay!

Random thoughts of the NFL at the time of my growing up......

Expecting Dallas to win. Every game.

Wondering which slightly over the hill QB the Rams were going to bring in to get them over the hump each year.

Watching the Raiders corner the market on stickum (no wonder Bilitnikoff and Lester Hayes never shook hands)

Going through pack after pack of TOPPS cards (even chewing the rigor mortis afflicted gum) with glee.

Watching the weekly highlights on This Week In Pro Football, hosted by Pat Summerall and Tom Brookshier.

Going outside after a game, and pretending to be Roger Staubach, or Chuck Foreman .
