I will have to agree with Level on this one.. being the Colts were undefeated, them going into the game with Broncos and being considered the underdogs.. it's much more than getting by that they won.

The Bears... well, they are good, but San Fran. is not exactly a top team to beat right now.

I am happy the Packers won, so all is good in that.

I look for my Colts to still do good for the season, but as usual..buckle when the play-offs get here..though I am still open to hope that won't be the case this year.

The Colts are deadly on offense, and Joseph Addai looks to be a solid replacement for Edgerrin James, but the defense has taken two steps back. They can't stop the run, and with Corey Simon gone for the year, and Booger McFarland not looking like his old self, ya'll are going to have to outscore everyone.

Bears all the way... the Colts will choke once again as they always do....

caitlyn -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (10/30/2006 8:18:12 PM)

The Bears really haven't played anyone all that good yet. They have games at the Giants, Patriots, and Rams coming up. I think they will come back to Earth.

BUT ... what about that traditional NCAA football doormat, Rice University. They're 3-5 and lost four games to teams that will all be in bowl games. Rice has four games left and will be favored in two of them. If they can get past Tulsa or East Carolina, they could make a bowl game. They have a very good Freshman QB in Chase Clement and a Freshman RB, Quintin Smith that was recruited by a bunch of Big-12 schools. Rice has a real future in football ... who knew.

maybemaybenot -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (10/30/2006 9:17:39 PM)

I wanted to wait until * we * played this week to join in.

First of all:   (((((((((((((((   katie )))))))))))))))))))  Keep your head  and chin up[:)]

Level: Nice game last night. Romo sure brought his A game and the rest seemed to follow suit. Gotta tell you, I didn;t think they would pull it off, let alone crush the Jags. But I do have one question: What the hell got into Parcells, with his smoochie smoochie non sense ?

Denver/Indy: Indy has become one of NE's arch rivals, but I have to admit, Manning really is amazing. The guy pulls plays out of his azz. < chokes on the following words:> I will admit Manning is probably the best QB in the NFL. Indy can keep him, I will take Brady any day. but no one cvan really question the guys ability and mind. Now, keep in mind the followng is an " if" and a BIG BIG " if" at that. As a Pats fan  I am thanking the football Gods that Indy won that one. If we make it to the play offs, the Denver loss at home gives us a bit of an advantage for home field, providing we can beat Indy next week. Like I said big " ifs".

Bears: what can you say? Gotta love Lovie.

Pats/Vikings: I am damn proud of my team tonight. I had a whole lot of doubts going into this game, predominantly due to the Vikings defense and run defense in particular. Brady had an stellar night and our defense was the smash mouth, in your face playmakers I expect from them.

Katie....thanx for starting this thread.. I am enjoying reading everyone's perspective and like how it was re generated a week after you posted it.. I hope we all keep it going thru the rest of the season.

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (10/31/2006 1:31:21 AM)

Your guy (Brady) was completely on last night.  I thought that game would be close.  About the Indy vs Colts game, I would've enjoyed watching that one.  Don't give Peyton a situation where he's down by 7 points or less and has the 2 final minutes of the game (especially with your old kicker on duty).

As far as my team goes, I think that fat lady has song, but I will stick with them.  We have Denver at home next week.  If we don't have it together that could be ugly.  (did I say "if"?)

You have the late game next Sunday and it is the game that everyone will be watching.

Uncle Bill loves his fellas *grins*.......... seriously, I think he's mellowing a bit with age.

It doth appear that Mr. Brady has gotten in sync with his receiving corps..... look out, NFL.

Thank you for appreciating and supporting this most awesome thread!  [;)]    I hope many of differing fan bases will help keep it alive.

PeterJay -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (10/31/2006 10:56:44 AM)

Hmm?? The Colts are deadly on offense? That is questionable. Their defense can't stop anybody so they better be able to put some points on the board. The Bears are winning by a score of  221 - 69. The Colts are beating their opponents 205 - 153. Bring your pansy dome team up here and play in the cold, the wind & the snow. It's a mans game and it should be played outdoors!

caitlyn -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (10/31/2006 11:53:53 AM)

The Bears have won seven games against opponents that have won a total of thirteen games. They may be good, but it may be like last year where they had a nice record and got run in their first playoff game.

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (10/31/2006 11:56:31 AM)

And the Bears are depending on its defense to make the big plays.  That doesn't always work.  Their offense wasn't so great against the Cardinals.  But I do agree with the "pansy dome" comment, although I prefer to call them "dome sissies".  [:D]

caitlyn -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (10/31/2006 12:01:10 PM)

I like Reliant better with the dome closed. At least then it's not so hot and sticky. You have to have some creature comforts, because all you get to watch is the Texans. [;)]

Mercnbeth -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (10/31/2006 12:13:08 PM)

My thanks to the NY Jets!

Based on this weeks game, I'm confident I won't be needing my "Gotta see the Jets in the Super-bowl" funds for another year. I feel secure not needing it again so I'll be using it for our summer '07 trip to Europe.

Additional thanks to the referee and hope he and his guide dog have a happy Halloween.

LMAO  at    " his guide dog". Quite true, Mercnbeth, there has been some very suspect reffing this year. Including the bogus  review call last night against the Vikings.

I thought Polian would have made this an issue in the off season as he has in the past, since last years play off officiating was pretty poor also.

mbmbn,
It's amazing to me that a Billion Dollar business that is the NFL won't commit to a full time referee system. Their answer is always that the season is too short and they can not afford it. At the very least the field officials should be young enough to keep up with the plays they are being paid to judge. Granted the worst of the lot aren't as out of shape as say, a baseball umpire, but a baseball umpire isn't required to run along side a sprinting wide receiver.

Does the NFL go out and recruit young officials, train them during the off season and keep them focused on having their primary job being an NFL official? No instead the NFL has a bunch of politically connected (Probably Republican and President Bush supporters at that!) 'fat cat' businessmen. It probably would not cost the league anymore than one of their Super-bowl party tabs for the league sponsors; and wouldn't require as many hookers.

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (10/31/2006 1:20:09 PM)

Yep, I have to agree, the NFL is rolling in revenue, and they have their own network.  They want to be professional, so why not have full-time refs?

We need more refs like Ed Hochuli!  (or at least more biceps like Ed's).

Lordandmaster -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (10/31/2006 5:22:47 PM)

Ditto re professional refs.  If we wanted amateurs, we'd be watching the NCAA.

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (11/4/2006 10:16:46 AM)

Okay kids, where are we this weekend?  The Steelers host the Broncos, I hope the Steelers have their game back.  The Broncos will be tasting revenge for the AFC playoff game and I am fearful (although to tell the truth, every Steeler game makes me fearful).  And the premier game (for AFC fans) has to be the Colts vs Patriots.  mbmbn, what's the weather forecast?   [8D]

maybemaybenot -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (11/4/2006 10:38:28 AM)

It is forcasted to be in the low to mid 30's. Not sure of the wind chill factor, 48% of precipitation. Sadly it won't be cold enough for snow.[:(]

This is my fave game of the year,  I am chomping at the bit for tomorrow night. I like our chances against them this year. As long as we can kill the clock, I think we will be OK. Hoping to see a whole lot of Brady's dink and dunk em up the field and keep Mr. Manning sitting nice and toasty warm on the sidelines. However, I never EVER underestimate the Colts, even with their dead last run defense stat. Can't wait to see what Dungy and BB bring to the table tomorrow night. It will definately be a great game, no matter what.

Katy: I've heard that Cowher may put Batch in if Ben is shaky in the first quarter.. any rumblings around your area about that? < heard it on a MB, but no actual links or substance that I can find >.
Once again I will be pulling and pulling hard for your Steelers. Selfishly, I am looking at the play off picture and non selfishly I don't want to se you cry again. Besides, Cowher is taking alot of heat this season and it is unwarrented IMO. He has been a great coach and the probs in Pitt are not soley in the coaching dept.

It will be interesting to see how Romo does,  I am not sold on one game, but  it does look promising for the boyz in D.  Once is a fluke, now he has to go out and prove he is not a fluke.

They should line up in Pitt to kiss Cowher's ass.... he's a terrific coach, and this may be it for him in Pittsburgh.

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (11/4/2006 11:22:59 AM)

Cowher is saying that Ben will start.  And I know we've had this conversation before, but what message does it send to everyone to take Ben out of the game?  The fans love to complain and not look at the big picture.  If Ben is the franchise qb then he needs  to learn about adversity as well as triumph.  On the radio I heard the players talking about Cowher's locker room strategy.  There is no schedule posted with standings, he took it down and replaced it with one game -- "Denver".  That's the only thing he wants anyone to think about, the game that faces them.

As far as your game goes, get the lead and keep it.  Don't let Manning have the ball in the final 2 minutes (that's the scariest part).
