Yup, "Global Socialism."
These grandiose schemes always, always involve plenty of U.S. Taxpayer dollars.

Er...no, popeye. The USA takes out more than it puts in, just like all western nations.

Come on popeye you normlly add a bit more than that.

OK I know you are sceptical about the whole human caused climate change thing but just humour me and assume that it is an issue, which is urgent, what are the fair and equitable options available to address it from your perspective.

I love it when I'm called a socialist on this site as most people in the non-USA portion of the globe think I have pretty right wing ideas.............LOL

"And of course "only" the "U.N." (for a $price!) can "solve" this "problem.""

...er sorry Popeye, but on this issue you are misinformed. The report in question was commissioned by the British Government and is being used to demonstrate to UK voters why action to ameliorate climate change is necessary. At no point has this report been used to suggest that only the UN can solve the problem........except by you.

From previous threads i know you have grave doubts as to the very existence of manmade climate change and its relevance to you, but to those who make it their business to know these things there is no doubt. Human activity is changing the climate in such a way as to make a lot of things that are now stable, unstable. This will inevitably, ultimately affect the US. Perhaps you have no children, no relatives with children.....maybe you truly don't care what will happen a generation or so from now.....those are all potentially honest opinions, albeit ones i don't share. However you fall from your usual standard of honest debate when you simply conflate your opinions of the UN with every attempt to deal with climate change. They are separate issues.

Haven't read all the contributions but I do note that these predictions were made by economists, dont forget that an economist couldn't make an accurate analysis of what happened last Tuesday let alone what will happen in 30/40 years time.

All the greeny/weenies are having a field day in the UK, we contribute about 2% of World Wide carbon emissions so thats a good reason to massively increase taxes then ? What good will that do ? We have developed an honorable tradition over the last few years of punishing people who DONT commit the crime. eg excessive alcohol consumption by a minority means penalise the sensible majority with tax increases. I blame the hair shirted raggity arsed lesbians !

I'm off for a pint !!!

Philosophy, the U.S. won't be involved in this anyway.
We're $8.5 TRILLION in debt so you guys are going to have to manage by yourselves. We're broke! We don't have it.

You don't have to spend money to cut greenhouse gases, you can stop spending money to cut greenhouse gases so whether the US is broke or not, is irrelevent.

There is a little voice inside me that says, "We are like Ants trying to decide whether the elephant is grey or green".

Greenland was Green. There is proof that the Romans cultivated grapes there, and also Iceland. The polar caps were at one time reversed so that polar north and polar south changes places. There is due, according to psychics, another polar shift within the next two hundred years. Like a goldfish bowl falling up the other way...

Each of us is trying to live. If the government wanted to it could feed the hungry in starving countries, but no, they send rockets to stars, and even to the Sun. Ants are so much more sensible. If public transport was free, nobody would buy cars. There are cars in a place called Billings, Utah which run on Hydrogen. The whole town runs on hydrogen....

We need to stop cutting trees and causing deserts....

.....this is true, and there is also evidence that the Sahara Desert wasn't always exactly where it is now......climate change is a fact of nature, but it isn't the issue under discussion. Human-made climate change is a whole new kettle of fish, and if we can influence it one way, it is in our gift to influence us back. Therefore this is not an issue of a natural process, but about taking responsibility for a human artefact.
