FelinePersuasion -> Inducing vomiting when you need to and can't naturally (10/30/2006 1:48:19 PM)

I had some brownies that didn't agrtee with me and I spent like 6 hours strait feeling the need to vomit but was unable to and so I just kept feeling like I was going to hurl and feeling sick allnight.  I know from experince when I have felt sick and shitty if I vomit and clean the tummy out the nasty eww dun feel good sensation will go away.

Annoying the back of my throat didn't work like every one says it would. What are other safe ways of inducing vomiting with out stuff like ipikak.

Suck it up and wait for it to pass.  Otherwise, you can use Pepto-Bismol, Kaopectate or some other or some other indigention remedy until your discomfort passes.

puking is bad for you. Try not to get in the habit.

yes, it's bad for you, but it's nature's way to help you. Vomiting is your bodies way of saying ok you've upset something and I am purdging it. it's how you get rid of poisons and toxins, or in the case things it just can't stand like concentrated  amounts of sugarlol. however if you were doing it for bulimia, then yeah no good don't go there.

It's more preferable than feeling like shit all night or suddenly vomiting everywhere with out warning lol. Done both neither were pretty options.

Stef We didn't have anything like that at my bf's and he had no way of getting me any, however next time I go traveling It'll be the first thing in the bag something for indigestion and or upset stomache.

I would strongly, strongly, strongly discourage you from trying to make yourself vomit. If your body needs to do it, it will do it for you. Otherwise, try some Tums or a glass of flat ginger-ale (sometimes the carbonation makes it worse).
For me, I get that feeling like I need to throw up when I eat too much too quickly. I feel disgusting all night. My cure: eat slowly, and don't have much liquid along with my meal. I don't follow this, and my body hates me. Then, I consider the option you posted about, which for me is a dangerous non-option. It's too easy to let it become a habit, as well- and that's not going to help the situation at all.
Worth a shot, maybe?- I think it's better than feeling sick, haha.
Otherwise, might want to ask your doctor if there's a reason you feel this way. Might be acid reflux or something to that extent. Not a bad idea to chat about it at your next visit.

Hope this helps (and that you are feeling better)-

I was laying down and I sat up and vomited all over my own hand. I felt better but was rather dismayed.

I also ate yesterday slowly and not much and spent the rest of the night feeling sick. I am hoping this is not going to be an everyday occurance.  my whole wallet was stolen and in mean time I have no id and no insurance card zip zero nothing. I have to wait till something is arranged if I wanna go.

Agreed that if your body needed to rid itself of whatever toxic/malaise-inducing substance was annoying your stomach, you would naturally feel it rising up and vomit without needing to induce same.

If this is happening more frequently than normal, try keeping a food journal of what you eat, the times, and when/if you feel ill. Perhaps you have developed a food allergy or have sensitivity to certain ingredients, (I personally am fairly lactose intolerant - not nice when I figure out someone has included cheese in a recipe and I'm without Lact-aid. *frowns*). Outside of that - ulcers, stomach polyps, hyperglycemia, diabetes, anemia, acid reflux, disorders with the GI Tract....there are many reasons why one's diet can remain the same but you begin to feel sick after eating. Keeping a food journal will be helpful should you need to see an internist, dietician, or any other health professional about this should it continue.

Ginger ale and crackers can help settle your stomach. Mylanta and the like can also help if you have it on hand.

If the feeling is coming from feeling too full, campari and club soda also can work as an after-dinner drink to settle one's stomach to feel well enough to continue the evening.

Do watch the health reports circulating online about infected food, also! I've been avoiding certain foods and brands after hearing about this recently.

Hope you are feeling better.

Brightest Blessings,

~Thea

Thea I am yes. I have supicions that it's concentrated amounts of rich sugar, because I felt extreamly sick after a halloween party with very rich sweets. I had a few of the rich brownies and ended up feeling very very sick, I felt like I needed t o vomit all night, that it's rising and it's in throat feeling but nothing would ever happen except I burped a lot and then when I wasn't able to be near a bathroom envitably that's when it all erupts lol.  Howevber if other foods start making me feel sick I'm going to the dr.
