Britain produces around 2% of the world's greenhouse gases with 60 million people, the US produces 25% of the world's greenhouse gases with around 300 million people. If the US used as little energy per capita as Britain, that would reduce world production of greenhouse gases by 15 % at a stroke! The last time I was in the UK it was still a developed country where most of the population live in relative luxury so reduction in greenhouse gases in the USA should be easy and painless. It just requires a change in attitude and culture and is not about giving up any luxury. If the USA could get a man on the moon in 1969, in 2006 they should have the where with all to create an integrated transport system for all the major urban centres. Actually, an integrated transport system in every British urban centre shouldn't be beyond them but it appears it's beyond Blair who refuses to kick out Thatcher's fucked up policy of the car being king and all the other proliferacy she encouraged. EDIT: The report goes on to say that modifying the world economy with new technologies and eco friendly consumption behaviour could be a fillip to the world economy. However, action needs to be taken now, meaning getting things well underway within the next ten years.
