I remember reading a post about self harm that really expressed the feelings and the attempting to control the chaos within.  About a fascination with the patterns the lines can make and an easing of the emotions that are so overwhelming otherwise.

I'd like to re read that post, as im struggling with self harm.  I wonder if anyone has any advice?

Well. I don't know what thread exactly you are referring to but....I went to "Search" and typed in Self Harm and it returned 272 possibilities. It would be best if you tried that and then you could pick the one you are referencing.

Self-harm is a serious issue, and one that you don't have to deal with alone. Find a trained professional, and talk about this. It will help you immeasurably.

Not that i never actually did it, but i know the feeling. It for some reason feels better to see on the outside what you are feeling deep within. Don't do it!

Seek some help from where ever you can find it. If you need help figuring out where, let me know. The only way to deal with it is to deal with what is causing the chaos inside, and the cuts only give temporary reliefe.

In my old workplace (with youth struggling with many mental health issues, and where self harm was very common) we used to have a great worksheet to help them identify what exactly was the feeling behind the urge to harm, and then offer a list of alternatives to meet that need instead of hurting oneself.  This isn't quite the same, but its very similar: http://www.mandysdepression.com/SelfHarmContents.htm

I am a recovering cutter and I can tell you that it IS a serious issue. You cut to release inner pain but it gets to a point where you aren't satisfying that need by cutting so you cut deeper and more often...I suggest you seek counseling---it has worked wonders for me...With the help of good friends, church...it's a long process but you  CAN move on . Depending on your situation antidepressants may offer you some help.
