Thank God!

Some one needs to bring the truth out in front of george the shrubs  idiot based approach to sex and disease prevention!  I think that the shrub should be held liable for every case of STD and AIDS since he went into office

Wow...thank you for that.

On a personal note, while i am of two minds about anyone teaching my kids how to masturbate in school, i am fully for sex ed to them as early as the 4th-6th grades.  My children quite enjoy Nature programs and Discovery channel since that is largely what i myself watch and if they have questions, i my become as red as a good port wine but i answer with a calmness and directness i know i don't feel because those are issues they will confront one day and the ostrich approach won't stop me from becoming a grandmother before 40 the way honest information will.

That and understanding takes the mystique out of sex in my mind.  If there is no air of taboo about it, then the naturally rebellious won't run out and do it. If they know from documented statements and facts that a condom is the only way to avoid pregnancy as well as STDs, they won't believe their friends mis-information about 'douche afterwards and it will be alright'.  Or the famous 'Use the handheld shower attachment to rinse yourself out to avoid getting pregnant.'

That one still slays me.  It's right up there with 'you'll get pregnant if you give head' and 'well guys can't get yeast infections!  that's just for girls'.  Uh-huh.  Hand to my heart that was a conversation with middle school kids and they were dead serious about it.

After a long night in the ER with my baby sister to find out what was making her ill and then the news of what it was....my kids will get everything they need to know, want to know and even stuff they may not want to hear if it means them avoiding 'life-long' personal health issues.

As we typically do in this country, we like to believe we are making a difference by saying we are doing something to address a problem, but then sabotage our own efforts.  We supposedly promote abstinence, education, and use of protection, but then bombard our children with sexual activity with our TV shows, magazines, celebrities, and movies.  There isn't enough intervention on the homefront, in my opinion.

I have no children of my own yet, but my sentiments mirror that of koimizu.  I actually dated a woman who was shocked when I gave her an orgasm with just my hands.  Her 'sex' education from a christian school taught her that she can ONLY have an orgasm from penetration.

Knowledge is very much a weapon.  The more you can arm a child with the chances of them making a stupid mistake decrease.

Teaching a kid about all the various myths about sex is good.   General information is ok as well.  But I do draw the line on actually showing/teaching them how to properly masturbate is definately crossing the line for me.  I mean, if they are curious about it, they will find out.   I mean, I found out how to just fine without being taught in school.
