I think your right...
this is what I was just reading:
AP--"The U.S. unemployment rate dropped to its lowest in nearly 5-1/2 years during October as 92,000 more jobs were added and hiring in each of the two prior months was revised up, a government report on Friday showed.

It revised up September's job-creation total to 148,000, or nearly three times the 51,000 it reported a month ago, and said there were 230,000 new jobs in August instead of 188,000.
The unemployment rate fell in October to 4.4 percent from 4.6 percent in September.

It was the lowest unemployment rate since 4.3 percent in May 2001."

UPDATE: More details on the US economy four days before an election:
Real Wages Grew 2.4 Percent Over The Past 12 Months. This means an extra $755 for the average full-time production worker or about $1,327 for the typical family of four with two wage earners.  Real After-Tax Income Per Person Has Risen By 9.8 Percent – $2,660 – Since President Bush Took Office.  Our Economy Has Grown A Solid 2.9 Percent Over The Past Four Quarters – Faster Than Any Other Major Industrialized Country.  Productivity Has Grown At An Annual Rate Of 3 Percent Since The First Quarter Of 2001, Up From A 2.4 Percent Annual Rate During The Preceding Five Years.  Gas Prices Have Fallen Almost 82 Cents A Gallon Since Early August.  Employment Has Increased In All But One State Over The Past 12 Months Ending In September. by Michael Graham

I predict that 100% of the people elected will be crooked, and that they will be more interested in lining their own pockets and they will have no real interest in what is or is not in the interests of the people....in other words, politicians.
I also predict that it will make no real difference to anybody's day-to-day life who gets elected.

Democrats will control the House and Senate, and promptly mistake this for some sort of mandate from the voters, when in fact it's more of a "grass is always greener" vote.

Democrats will use this imagined mandate, as a reason to push forward a highly liberal agenda, that really isn't supported by the voters. President Bush will veto them all.

In the 2008 Presidential election, we will get another neocon President, because the idea of electing someone that will actually pass the liberal agenda presented by Congress, will scare people more than another neocon President.

caitlyn,
My congratulations to you and your sources of education!

I predict that Hillary and Obama will be the team to get elected.

At least they won't see it as "God spoke to me and told me so" mandate :)

I don't see that happening. Hillary is too smart to ruin her political career by swimming in troubled waters, and rednecks would come out in droved to vote against that 'Obama bin Laden' guy. [;)]

I'd say the odds are that the House and Senate both will stay Republican.  Might be close, but it usually breaks to them.

I predict that everything will pretty much stay the same.
There will be a couple of upsets but not much change.
I predict that the stupid people of Massachusetts will re-elect
"The Wizzard of Ah's"  Ted "Progressive" Kennedy.

I predict both houses will by 75% Democrat after this election.   What's YOUR prediction?

I predict if they don't the cry will not be that they lost, but that the election was rigged.

Good thing the Republicans lobbied so hard to prevent Diebold et al from giving out paper receipts to people after they vote.

I guess they did not realize that these receipts could be used to actually prove how a person voted and whether an election was rigged.

Just me, could be wrong, but there you go.

The Democrats in Chicago aren't upset by this either - their battle cry is "Vote Early, Vote Often"

And yes, Chicago still has the most corrupt voting practices in the country, bar none - I love this State.

ToGiveDivine -> RE: Election Predictions (11/3/2006 2:28:19 PM)

Fast Reply

In a very recent election, the Dems were supposed to take back the House and be a seat less in the Sentate according to all the polls - they ended up losing more seats in both the House and the Senate.

The ONLY poll that matters is the one held on election day when you get your little "I Voted" sticker - the rest is just wishful thinking on both sides.

I couldn't even imagine what's going to happen - there is an old adage about elections, "It's the Economy Stupid"

If the economy is in the toilet 3 months before the election, the incumbants suffer - if it's good, the incumbants do well.

With the Dow soaring, unemployment down, consumer confidence up, take home pay up, gas prices down, jobs up, etc. etc. - it may be enough to offset the bad feelings over Iraq.

But as one of the other posters was so kind to illuminate - it doesn't matter who gets elected, we are going to get the shaft.

As for 2008, the people that would really make a great President won't run (and that's a main reason why they'd make a great President.)

This is true about Republican majority in both houses of congress usually breaks to them, for example, look at the Republican majority in Congress from the early 1970s...

Move along, nothing to see here.

Sinergy,

Do you have a point or are you just expressing your frustration?

My point was a light hearted jab at Lotus for her 75% number.  Your's, on first glance, seems to be a more sarcastic and demeaning one.

Just me, could be wrong, but there you go., etc, etc.

I apologize if you took it that way.

My comment was just a light hearted jab at your comment about things tending to break towards the Republicans.

Republicans only recently gained enough power in Congress to control it.  Now that they have it, they have worked less days, passed fewer laws, funded fewer bills, and done less than the Do Nothing Congress (circa 1930ish)

On the other hand, they have systematically destroyed government institutions like FEMA that were built by Bill Clinton into a world-class organization from the organization under Reagan which was considered to be able to "screw up a two car parade."

The problem the party has right now, is that since they have consistently supported the Religious right and corporate interests over their other constituency, engaged and been caught in innumerable scandals, raped our economy, etc., the chickens are coming home to roost.

So to clarify, I have not seen things breaking towards the Republicans at all since the days of DeLay.  The stacked dominos are collapsing.

Just me, could be wrong, but there you go.

FirmhandKY -> RE: Election Predictions (11/3/2006 3:56:50 PM)

Perhaps it is part of the old political saw "where you stand depends on where you sit".

I'm not particularly enamored by the current Republican majority in either the House or the Senate, but I'll probably hold my nose and vote for my local congressmen again - who happen to be Republican.  I'm seriously debating doing a write in vote for Santa Claus, however.

My comment about things "breaking to them" is the documented fact that most polls published prior to an election consistently underestimate the point spread in democrats favor.  It always seems to amaze the talking heads when there is a "come from behind" win by a republican, when it appeared that he was behind  or in a close race.

But it happens time and time again.

So ... my prediction is ... based on this fact ... that many of the "close" races, or those races where the polls show the democrat slightly in the lead ... will go mainly Republican.

Which is most of the races.

Just me, could be wrong, but there you go.

Sinergy, that sounds about right as regards Texas. The one spot I see the Dems putting effort in is to replace Tom "Bugspert" Delay. Nick Lampson has a good chance of taking that seat, and he's a hell of a guy; smart, hard-working, and pretty damn honest. He held the congressional seat in the county next to us, until Delay and his asshole buddies did their redistricting "magic".

WyrdRich -> RE: Election Predictions (11/3/2006 5:23:19 PM)

I predict I will need a stiff drink after voting for the lesser of evils on Tuesday.  I predict that the Dems who lose close races will whine like sniveling bitches.  I predict Harry Reed will offer to blow Joe Lieberman at high noon on the Capitol Steps.

California is so Liberal, and so Gerrymandered, I could just commute home after work, take a shower and go to bed and it won't affect anything one bit.  I'll go get another sticker for the computer case and preserve my rights to rant and rage.

75%?!?!  That WOULD be a mandate and no way do I see it.  I think the Dems will gain just enough power in the House to completely screw their chances at the White House in '08.

I predict you will be correct. I listened to a radio program last night with a few prognosticators and they more-less said the same thing.

I know out here in Oregon, we have an unusually weak democrat; incumbent governor that would have lost by at least five percentage points had the republicans not mucked things up so bad; now it looks like he will win by five percentage points.

The thing that's really surprised me is that we have ten very conservative measures on the table that control property taxes, curb government spending, limit intrusiveness, enact term limits, and penalize corporate malfeasance, and the prognosticators have said probably every one of them will be shot down in flames.
