Had a little accident with candle wax today - my fault really, I gave Master the candle assuming it was ok, but my did it burn.

I put cold water on it straight away but it is still sore.  All my first aid training has always said not to put any creams on burns, but does anyone have any suggestions to help the healing and stop it being sore.  It is not blistered just red and on my boob.

Keep cold stuff on it as long and as often as you can.  Otherwise, just keep the area clean.  There are some specific burn creams which can help, but they are either Rx or very pricey, so if it's not a serious one, just leave it alone and let it heal, take some ibuprofen.

you might even try sunburn relief product with a cooling effect...

It will be a good lesson learned by both of you (or anyone reading this now)... don't use just any type of candle, the scented ones tend to burn hotter. Go for the plain paraffin safety candles & just allow a drip rather than a stream of melted wax... hold the candle further away to start. As you get familiar with the temp you can adjust how much wax & how far away you hold the burning candle from the skin.

I prefer the slow cooker with blocks of paraffin wax... you have a constant temp so long as you don't let the pot get too shallow for too long. It is also great for doing a large surface coverage. We've done scenes where we used a soup ladle to spoon out huge amounts & ended up covering the entire upper body.

Too late now I'm afraid. As with all burns, after the initial incident, steer clear of any creams and oils. On contact with the heat source, apply a cold compress for anything up to 15 minutes (NOT direct ice on skin!)

All I can suggest that you do to ease the discomfort is moisturise regularly the affected area. If after a few days the skin breaks, keep the wound clean. Do not cover with a plaster (I think you call them band aids in the States?) Cover it lightly with a breathable sterile material dressing. If a blister does form with fluid in it, DO NOT burst it! If the blister stays after 7 days, seek medical guidance.

Get well soon,

Daz.

I know i use aloe vera plant juice on burns and it takes the heat away and has even taken the blisters out.  Is also good for sunburn.  Just strip the outer part of the plant and let the ooze go on the burn.  Yes i know most medical folks would say no but it works and has worked for me for many years.

Thanks all, it seems a lot better today.  I was having a big tidy up the other day and I must of thought that particular candle was one of the 'play' candles, same size etc but obviously not!

I like the idea of the parafin wax, I'll pass that on to Master!

Aloe vera or Bacitracin cream. The stuff's amazing but it stains clothes so when you go to buy it the pharmacist may try to talk you out of it because they get people coming in upset at ruining their clothes.
