Status: offline 		I'm considering getting a branding done. Does anybody have any comments positive and/or negative from past experiences? Does anybody have any links to information? More importantly, does anyone have any video clips so that I can actually see what I am going to do?

Status: offline 		Unfortunately, I don't have any video. The method my best friend uses is to heat wire of varying size and to use the wire to burn the design into your body. It is not going to be one burn, then it's over. It will usually be several burns. Other methods I am aware of involve using different heat tools, similiar to a wood burner, if I remember correctly, to burn the design into your skin.

As with any burn, aftercare is extremely important to avoid infection. If branding is legal in your state, go to someone who is licensed and has a good reputation. If branding is illegal in your state, I would recommend going somewhere where it is. This is not the same as getting a tattoo. It can be extremely dangerous in inexperienced hands.

I'm absolutely surprised LA has not posted a list of links on branding because I'd say at least once a month that topic comes up (I'm not a whiz with the search engine plus I'm lazy).  Anyways I don't know of any videos of branding, but I was branded and have a slideshow up of the healing, experience of being branded, etc at:

Status: offline 		Branding human skin is not a good deal, even if done in stages the brand tends to become a lump of scar tissue find someone with a good looking brand and ask them who did it you may be looking a long time. Find a true tatoo artest you will be much happier

Status: offline 		Branding is a specialized practice, and I'd suggest that you find someone with definable and extensive experience.  For instance:  Try to brand an O and rather than get an O you will simply end up with an open wound that is likely to granulate (if kept from infection) to a small scar.  To get an O one needs to do something like circular but with open spaces, this way the surficial circulatory system is not disconnected and the wound heals as rounding segments.

Do your research and be safe...  Try Piercing Quarterly if they still exist...for articles.

Status: offline 		Branding is quite difficult to get right because you never know what form the scarring will take - mine hardly shows compared to cutting, but a friend's branding keloided awfully and she hates it.

Status: offline 		I'll get on the band wagon and suggest finding a professional to do the work for you.  In the states where brnading is legal, they are not difficult to find, and that wil increase your chances of actually getting a brand that resembles what you are hoping for.  I have seen many branded people, from those who were branded by masters to those who decided on branding over a tattoo for scarification effects. Many of them bore no resembalance to what it was they were trying to create, because the brands were either not administered properly, or were not cared for correctly.  A professional will be able to walk you through the aftercare as well as help design a brand that wil best translate from what you want to see to what you should get, finished product.

Status: offline 		Go to you're local college its done all the time now. Not nearly as much as tattoos are done but one of the in things to do is get a branding of the letters of there fraternity's done in there skin. I.e. Apha Alpha would be AA.
But branding a human is not the same as a cow or horse if you took the same brand you would use for a cow got it red hot you hold it on the cow for 7sec but on a horse its 5 so a human would be maybe2 or 1sec. So keep that in mind. And unlike a tattoo you there is yet a way to get it removed. You're stuck with it for life.

I found this totally fascinating to see, Wildfleurs, thank you for sharing it.  My Master did not want me to endure that at the time, so he tattoo'd me instead.  But wow, I bet you wear that proudly.  Would you say total healing time was about 6 months?

Status: offline 		I lean more and more towards either multi-strike branding or electrocautery with either a professional system or a bovie pen. 

Edited: the folks I've recommended are all in the US, and of course, now I notice that you're in the UK.  You might get lucky doing a google search on Fakir Musafa and branding or scarification for video or at least photography.

Thanks, and I definitely wear it proudly!  Its always funny after the fact how the worry over certain things don't really end up mattering much.  In terms of healing time the first time I felt comfortable really showing people my brand was around December (we did it in the begining of August), but I'd say full healing took a couple months after then, so six months sounds around right (but to be fair we did the brand a bit deeper than the basically shallow tap brands I've seen done as of late).

Pretty much the first two-three months it hurt and itched.  I'd say even now the brand is more prone to getting dry and being itchy (but not in a painful way).

Status: offline 		Thank you for sharing your experience; I have found it amazingly interesting.  Yours - a permanent brand - was what Master originally considered for me (as opposed to some of the other, less permanent methods). He had too many concerns about it at the time and instead designed an insignia to label me with, which I love.  But the knowledge and experience you have shared has been quite interesting, and I will share it with him as well.

The brands I have done that were light didnt really hurt or itch.
The one I just did is a much deeper one and it hurts like heck at times(hot air/water on it) the first scab is gone.I wont show anyone what it looks like yet...
