ORIGINAL: zenmessenger Hi everyone, been here a little while but this is my first time posting. And please forgive what I'm sure is the appalling naïvete of my question. In the context of this site, what is the difference between a submissive and a slave? Thanks in advance. As you can see zen, there is no set standard that defines the difference between a sub and slave. Most call themselves whatever they feel is appropriate within the context of their relationship. With some slaves, most of their life is controlled; the same with some who call themselves subs. Some slaves still hold various freedoms; as do some subs. And despite popular belief, not all subs constantly renegotiate their rights. Some do, some don't. Some will say that a submissive is not owned, whereas a slave is. But how about the single slaves that advertise on CM? They are not owned yet called themselves slaves. Do you see what i mean? There are no absolutes on these definitions. For some reason, there are many who are just 'chomping at the bit' to get a collar so they can call themselves 'slave'....but a collar doesn't automatically make one a slave either. A sub on here for 2 months takes a collar from a dom who's been on here for 2 months, and all of a sudden, she's a slave and he's a Master? i guess that's what it will be by their definition....and that is exactly what i am saying. So call yourself whatever you feel is appropriate for yourself. And when you get a partner, i'm sure you will be whatever they call you :) Daddysgirl
