Pop it into a box with another drive, then boot into Knoppix.

Once you're in, open a terminal window, su, then dd if=/dev/olddrive of=/mnt/usbdrive/filename.img

Once you have a big honking file based image, you can slice and dice as appropriate at the byte level if the filesystem is hosed that badly.

How about an outdoors geek????

Im a geocacher when I get chance, means I can pretend to get away from it all in the country but have a legitimate excuse for needing the laptop, the pda, a cellular modem and preferably a nearby starbucks with wifi :)

sleazy; way to go! Always finding new realms for geekdom - myself, I am something of a luddite anway - so I leave the computer at home when I nick off to the woods to be geeky. But damn it, the solar shower comes with me.

In my efforts to be with a truly geeky guy, I did fall asleep through the LOTR movies. I guess I didn't miss much ... I snoozed off as they were walking out of the shire and woke up as they were hitting the volcano. AWESOME!

Nature geeks rawk ... But I gotta have my laptop. I'm not *quite* a geek, I don't think but I border right on the cusp. All I know for sure is, a pocket protector/fanny pack combo is DEAD SEXAY!

How geeky was he? Here's some rough indicators on a scale of 1 to 10 (one being not geeky)

1) Hobbit, elf, what's the difference?
4) That's not what a *REAL* orc looks like!
7) Damn it, they left out Tom Bombadil!
10) This movie doesn't line up correctly with the source material laid out in the Simarillion.

I am a geek because:

I play WoW, collect video games (like old nes and snes), play every rpg I can find (video game, online, tabletop etc). Play D&D, vampire, d20 Mod, etc. I am interested in larp and sca, go to ren faires, and have been known to go out in ren garb just for the hell of it.

My "big" vacation every year is to an anime convention. Hentai is my favorite kind of porn. I love cartoons (aqua teen hunger force, robot chicken, etc).

I read fantasy, sci fi, etc. Can quote anne rice books by heart. I own 4 animals named after star wars characters.

Do I qualify yet?

And don't forget the ultimate qualifier...I am GEEKY GIRL!
