Clasp your hands in prayer and say "We sure whooped them injuns didn't we". Every silver lining has a dark cloud. Thankgiving, a feast to celebrate the cooperation between the Native Americans and the settlers is the dark cloud. Any day you get off work is a good day, and days that everybody gets off work and joins with family and friends is even better. However the premise is terrible. In the beginning the Native Americans were helpful to the settlers. And then the settlers became the natives. This through a partial genocide and other nasty acts. Settlers simply took what they wanted. They figured it was OK to just go anywhere in the world and set up a government regardless of who was already there. Sounds like Palestine doesn't it ? They just walk into your country and say "Well, you gotta go". In my futuristic book I said, about those who work in outer space in the 25th century : I hope they don't get the colonizing idea in their head. To think that everything is ours for the taking is precisely what caused most of the problems in human history.. Enjoy your family and friends, enjoy your food. Just remember you are celebrating the almost total demise of an indigeonous Race by aggressors with superior weapons. This is one day that I would rather not say grace if I were a Christian. Just pass the food. It is like saying thank you for something you stole. Christmas and Easter are similarly bent out of shape. They are adapted from Odinistic or pagan rituals. The dates have no relationship to Christ's life at all. So I am going to go over Mom's and eat her food and probably even watch her new TV a bit, but I don't kid myself. This is only a day off because they say it is. It is not a holiday. Holiday means "Holy Day" and this certainly does not qualify. Unless, as I said, we are celebrating kicking the shit out of the natives. All this after pretending to be friendly and recieving their help. Perspective. T
