Yes but more than that in common.

Cities conquered by Caeser

Simply listing four cities in the same general region makes this not a puzzle to be solved, but a guessing game with literally hundreds if not thousands of answers.

They were all conquered by the Turks to become part of the Ottoman Empire, for example.

If there's some distinguishing feature that separates these cities from all the others in the region in some defining way, I'm certainly not seeing it.

This song came to mind.  *It's always fun to add another dimension to the puzzle, eh?  I don't have another guess... but I got a song or a poem for everything!

Wow. Now a lecture on the rules of this game. It's been a big day for me around here.

What you've said could be true of most if not all of the previous posts in this category. I haven't randomly listed cities in a region at all, although they are in the same region and if you think about that and what holiday we've just suffered through, maybe it will become clearer.

In fact, I'll just give the answer and be done with it.

They are all capitals of countries that border Turkey.

Needless to say, I might step out of this thread for good. I just seem to not play correctly. Don't worry - story of my life.

An admission I don't get it is now a lecture and you're off to pout?

Yup, we missed that they border Turkey. Our bad. And gosh, turns out I'm not perfect. Has anyone alerted the media?

It's a fricking game. A game. Get over it.

sunshine--lol--yeah, I'd forgotten about that song! Now it's running through my head...

As its just a game, any reason you were huffed about why my post in particular didnt fit into your definition of how it should be played?

Okay, folks, let's all relax and play nice. We all have different styles for crafting quartets, and that's part of the fun.

I think EW's quartet was clever, especially give its holiday tie-in. With a hint or two, we'd have gotten there eventually. (I didn't see it either; I was thinking cities connected to St. Paul.)

Meantime, we need a new quartet, so I'll pinch-hit.

NEW QUARTET:

Months of the Year
Addictions
Colors of the Spectrum
Presidents on Coins

Ebony,

I don't attend every argument I'm invited to.

You win. I'm sorry. I probably should have just said "How about a hint?"

And I agree with dc:

Groups?  Ok, really what I thought of were they are discrete lesson plans for teaching English, but I knew that wasn't right!

Hmm....12 months, 12-step programs...how many colors, visible/nonvisible in the full spectrum? Dunno.

I did come across this, though, that I didn't know and found interesting:

"Note that, starting in 2007, all deceased Presidents will be honored with a circulating Golden Dollar (which, contrary to the belief of some, is not gold at all, though it has a golden color). The coins will be released 4 per year, and will cover every president from George Washington to Gerald Ford, at least as of March, 2007. By law, no living President's image can appear on a coin."

The English lesson plan is starting to look good...

I'll give you a hint: I was thinking of the thread when I came up with this quartet.

New Quartet:

Georg Cantor
Richard Dedekind
Ernst Zermelo
A. A. Fraenkel

[for a hint, follow dc's lead (or should I say "lede"?)...

...but I don't know if they can help you learn about the Beatles.]

btw--this thread celebrated its third anniversary this week!

Back to the beginning...

Or, to put it another way:
