I suffer from depression at times, it usually comes when there is something drastic going on in my life & I just can't deal with things-ex-my father dying & my longtime boyfriend dumping me. But since I know the symptoms for me I am able to tell my Dr when it's occurring. If you're not happy with your Dr. because he doesn't listen find one who will. The Dr who realized I suffered from it talked with me for over an hour before deciding that medication might work, she also kept trying different antidepressants because of reactions I had to the drugs (hallucinations) or the drug just not working for me. She must have tried about 6 or 7 before we found the right one. It's been over 4 yrs since I had a bout of it but it can be very debilitating & can seriously mess up your life. Just remember antidepressants are not happy pills, they just help balance you out to your normal personality. Good luck & keep trying to find a solution, life's too short to lock yourself in your room every month.

I see anti-depressants as emotional painkillers - nothing more and nothing less, with about as much risk as conventional painkillers. There's been a lot of bad press about them but they save more lives than they screw up, that's for sure.

Basically, if you go to a physician, s/he will only put you on meds.. since meds and surgery are the answers in modern allopathic medicine. Find a good counselor who you can feel comfortable with, preferably one that is also a naturopath or holistic health practitioner. If you don't believe in all this, then go and get put on meds for the rest of your life.

Nikita, Honey, you also might be suffering from a chemical imbalance in your brain that causes you to be Bi-Polar, going from extreme feelings of well-being to the darkest depths of dispair. My ex-wife was bi-polar. She eventually got treatment and now she is healthy-I won't use the word "normal" to describe her! LOL! [:D]

That sounds like what I used to do before I started taking my meds. for depression. There is no quick fix for it. Talk to a doctor, and he may prescribe meds, but they can take up to 6 wks to start to fix the problem. Talking to someone helps sometimes too. You are not alone in this problem. I think we all suffer from it at some point in our lives. You can come out of it with help. Don't be scared or embarrassed to ask for help. Please see someone soon.
