GrandpaLash you will NOT get an intellectual response from most people on this list...They know what they know and don't try to confuse them with the facts.
I was at the FIRST International AIDS conference, organized by Dr. Francisco Cy at USC. (The real USC...University of South Carolina)
At that conference we were warned by the "experts" at CDC the next population to show widespread signs of the virus would be prostitutes...guess what? Never happened.

One of the politically correct positions all along has been that this is a disease which strikes everyone...not so. It is a disease which in the US has decimated people who engage in unprotected anal sex (The labels of homo, hetero and bi are used to confuse the issue because no one wnats to talk about taking it up the ass in polite society.)

The reality was annd still is that you would get NO support for research or treatment if you went to the average right wing bible thumping politician and said; "Hey we want a few hundred million to see what we can learn about a disease that is killing butt-fucking queers and IV drug users."

So we got hit with the rat pack headed by Gallo at the NIH and his slut/mistress...who was on staff at the NIH and decided who would get the grants.

Want to hear all of this?...go to this link.

http://www.virusmyth.net/aids/index/kmullis.htm

Remember there is money in all this...follow the money trail.

And do not try to win your argument using the CDC predictions and definitions...they are tainted by politics and big money.

Grandpa:

Add to what lovingmaster45 said:

1. The fact that there is a contingent that *wants* to be alarmist. Trying to deal with people who are alarmist-by-choice via the tools of reason and observation is doomed to be an unproductive exercise in futile frustration.

2. Continuing observation of this topic over the decades of its ongoing lifespan has inspired the personal conclusion that there is more to it than either facts or alarmism. (More to it than meets the eye.) What I have come to realize is that no small measure of the we-are-in-danger-every-time-we-engage-in-sex mantra sets the stage for the proponent of that mindset to exercise a significant measure of control over the scope and method sexual activities. (Or to gain the favor of those who want to exercise that kind of control by joining them in their philisophical tirade.) Certainly, it would be better to simply be forthright and *say* one wants to exercise this control over the way he or she engages in sex. But people often are not wired that way. People often prefer an oblique approach, whether consciously or subconsciously. To attempt to reason with these people about the *stated* topic is an exercise in futility, for that is not the topic in their minds (and emotions) at all.

You seem like a sincere, intelligent and reasonable person. I hope this helps in some small way.

During any penetration there is a chance of minor tearing to whichever orifice you are gaining access to, subsequently there is a chance of blood residue transferring to a toy.

There is no way to know what the odds are on this, first you would have to find someone who was able to remember what transpired during a particular sexual incident, and their would have to be no other sexual contact besides toys alone.

I caught herpes from an 18 year old girl who had only had 3 other partners, and I was wearing a condom; though I know there was much physical contact before I got suited up for penetration.

Despite what the statistic might be I would recommend cleaning your toys, or at least letting your partners know that you aren't playing with sterilized items.

Well yes, I agree, and have said so all through this thread - of course one must clean toys, there's no point in playing Russian Roulette even when the chances of a loaded chamber are so small.

Or..............

One could save the intercourse for relationships in which there is a large measure of knowing the other person. (I know that's a radical approach but I feel like using my imagination this morning.) For relationships in which there is some stability. For relationships in which there is some commitment. For relationships in which one knows one is fornicating with someone who is disease free.

I love it when my imagination takes over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG...remember Shel Silverstein? poet laureat of Playboy magazine? Writer of all the Dr. Hook songs? Author of children's books?
He once had a song that was used as the theme music for an ABC special on STDs...name that song?

"Don't Give a Dose to the One You Love Most"

Don't give a dose
To the one you love most
Give her some marmalade
Give her some toast

You can give her a partridge
In a pear tree
But the dose that you give her
Might get back to me

Damn I am old.
