Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with Vonage? Is it a good thing to use, or a waste of time? What are the pluses and minuses? Thanks.

I have Vonage, and I haven't found a minus yet! The only possible minus may be that there might not be the availability of your area code. I live in the 423 area, and they don't have that, so I have a 615 area code. You can choose whatever area code you want, regardless of whether they have your area code available or not. I chose 615 (they didn't have mine available) because I have friends and family in that area, and they can call me without a long distance charge). I can call anywhere in the United States and Canada as a local call. I love Vonage!! $35 a month, Local calling to anywhere in the United States or Canada, call waiting, caller id, call forwarding, conference calling, voice mail, and no minute restrictions or other limits. You can't receive collect calls, that would be a downside for some, perhaps. I make sure my daughter always has a calling card.

I've had Vonage since last year and it has been down once for ten minutes, and they sent me an email to let me know it was going to be down for maintenance. It keeps a log of all your received and placed calls online. You make your payments online, by credit card/debit card. I have two phones plugged into it, a handset here on my desk, and a cordless in the livingroom. You can get an 800 number for a very low fee attached to your number, you can get a second number, and an online (softfone). Vonage rocks!

With the digital modem phone, the computer doesn't have to be on. Someone asked me that the other day. It runs off of your cable connection, not your computer itself. It will work whether your computer is on or not. You can be on the phone, and online, watch television, all at the same time.

A friend of mine tried it, and had nothing but trouble from day one, and couldn't get any help from their tech support. He eventually cancelled it and is going to get cable phone service from our local cable company (same price, and vastly superior service; I know, cuz I use optimum voice.)

Well if Sherri is correct, it could cause you to pull your hair out in frustration.
