There is no standard and people will only be able to give you answers based on their own personal experiences, hopes or dreams.

Personally, for me, Himself choose me when I was already a seasoned submissive although had been only service topping for the previous 7 years or so and he had the power, stability, intellect, humor and charm to force my hand and submit to him as he wished.


I became slave much later on in the relationship.. years later.

I 'talked' to Master because I liked what he had to say.

My Master's personality and power struck me in our first conversation.  But he chose me, I did not choose him.  I begged him to own me because I knew my life would be better with his ownership, and I wanted to spend my days making him feel good.

But it was his strength, consistency, honesty, confidence/arrogance, intelligence and power that grabbed me from the start.

How would you choose a boyfriend, fiance or husband? While the traits may be different, the process is very similar. It's at least a good place to start.

Same morals and values. Someone with self control, no rage or anger issues. A man who lives up to his word. If you say you'll be there at 7, then you had better have a good excuse to be there 20 minutes late. Someone who treats those who are in no position to do him any favors with good manners and kindness. How does he treat waitresses? Or the elderly? Obviously compatibility in a number of areas, some of which matter more to some than to others.

i also agree with masterfire.

although i must say He chose me to be His submissive. that was not my choice to make. our relationship didn't start out as D/s; that came shortly after we started dating, because it's something that's important to me and something He wanted to explore as well. if He had not wished to have me as a submissive, i'm not entirely sure our relationship would have progressed, but He would not be my master...because He chose not to be. and if one day He decides He no longer wants that role...that's His choice, too. and it's also His choice to release me (i don't consider it to be mine unless i feel i'm in real danger).

the qualities i find most lovable and sparkly about Him are His honesty and how much importance He places on communication and independence. i also find it pretty challenging and very much a learning experience that He is interested in open relationships, polyamory, and jealousy doesn't exist to Him, not really. He's exactly the combination of alike to and different from myself that makes things work :) i've grown very much as a submissive but haven't been pushed too far outside my comfort zone; He's grown as a dominant and is also happy with our relationship. so i think it was a pretty damn good choice, by far (maybe one of the best He's ever made ;)).

While I was seeking I looked for an intelligent, grounded experienced person. Which was very hard to find a times. Master found me though.

Master chose me before i chose him before we even met face to face when we were talking on the phone he said i was going to be his.  Once i met him when i gave him a kiss he was right i was going to be his so he chose me  but i also chose him.

My King chose me, however I knew He was the right one for me because of His confidence, sense of humor, the way He captured my imagination, the power in His voice when we are in a scene, the way He knew me as if He was put on this earth just to be my King
