Sadly Mons, it isnt just in Africa that this takes place - the law against female circumcision was brought in, in the UK at least, because it was happening here in certain communities. Then those communities started sending their girls for "holidays", where the deed would be done. So now, its an offence to do it anywhere in the world under UK law. These girls were westernised and had usually been told little or nothing about what was going to happen, for fear it might get out to the authorities here. Quite apart from their inability to consent as children therefore, they had no means of objecting anyway. Like sharia, this is not a case of respect for diversity meaning we should say/do nothing about it. My culture used to routinely execute heretics and blasphemers against Christ after all, and I somehow dont think that would make a comeback out of a policy of upholding diversity. Cultural diversity always comes second to human rights. E
