As I say in all threads regarding herbs : Please cross check and reference before taking any herbal rememdy. Some herbs cannot be taken if you have certain diseases, conditions and or are contraindicated if you are taking certain prescription medications. The Herbal Physicians Desk reference is your friend. Found at any library and most natural food stores and herbal farms

As for Black Cohosh: it creates endometrial stimulation and increased blood flow to the pelvic region, there fore should NOT be taken during menses because it actually increases your flow. There is some data that links autoimmune induced hepatitis to Black Cohosh use, but it is not conclusive at this point

Evening Primrose Oil: should not be taken if you have liver disease. Be very cautious if you are a diabetic as many EPO preparations contain high amounts of sugar.
Use with extreme caution if you are taking aspirin products, NSAIDS < ibuprofen, alleve, naprosyn, etc> If you are taking nueroleptic medication or coumadin or antio seizure medications such as Dilantin or tegretol, you shoudl not use EPO OR check with your MD first

That said, I use herbs regularly. I used Black Cohosh for my night sweats with very good effect. And as some one else said, soy. Lots of it. I also encourage the use of the raw herb or in tincture form vs the manufactured herbal preparations. The manufactured types contain fillers and additives and you often have no idea what you are really taking. The raw herbs can be made into a tea or you can  grind them into your own capsule form. Most herb farms sell the gelitin caps for filling. The tinctures are used with a dropper and put under your tongue or into water or some other fluid.
