I haven't been able to find any good documentation on how long should clamps be left on before permanent damage sets in. Anyone know?

urmastermentor -> RE: clamp safety (12/15/2006 1:40:09 PM)

it depends on the strength of the clamp--i know with my female subs, i don't feel safety for them if it lasts more than 30 minutes---some subs have insisted they stay on for hours---i haveb't seen any documentation on it either

sub4hire -> RE: clamp safety (12/15/2006 3:08:54 PM)

It is different for each clamp as has been said.  You just have to keep checking.  Making sure circulation hasn't left...discoloring..etc.
It is a case by case situation.

shadevarr -> RE: clamp safety (12/15/2006 8:09:41 PM)

so remove them once those light shades of blue start coming in?

mnottertail -> RE: clamp safety (12/15/2006 8:20:24 PM)

seriously?  Clip one to one of your nuts and time it................

I ain't joking........if you can take it they can.

With no disrespect Ron, i can not agree with You on that.  Everyone has a different tolerance of pain.  What Your testicals may feel with a clamp compared to a sub's clit with a clamp is totally different.  i have also found that it depends on how the clamp is put on.  A man's nipple may actually be able to take pain much longer than a woman's nipple.  It all depends on how much experience each of them have had in the past in terms of the pain one has already received.

For instance one woman who has been spanked a numerous of times is more likely to have a tougher skin layer on her behind than one that has just started getting spanked yesterday.  i hope You can understand what i mean.

So i wouldn't suggest to think that what You feel would be the same as the other feels in terms of pain.

Elegant -> RE: clamp safety (12/16/2006 10:33:16 PM)

      All microbondage compression toys (clamps, clothespins, clips, forceps, hemostats) basically work the same way.  When a compression toy is applied we first feel the pinch when the nerves start sending signals. After a short time the nerve has been deprived of blood and stops sending the signal cause it is out of energy. The victim/ bottom doesn’t just get used to the pain. In actuality the pain signals stop getting through because the circuit is broken. What sensation is left being felt is because the surrounding nerves that still work send some signals, just not nearly at the level that were being sent before bondage.

Any ischemia (Restriction in blood supply) exerted against the skin may impair the microcirculation, the lymphatic circulation, and the interstitial transport processes, thereby leading to skin breakdown and tissue damage. Damage can also occur with Reperfusion, when the blood supply returns to the tissue after a period of ischemia.   When playing with clothespins and other microbondage compression toys don’t forget about other medical concerns: Mastitis, Fibrocystic Breasts, Menstrual Cycle, Mammary Duct Ectasia, Piercings And Wounds, Hernias and Cysts, Breast and Scrotum Hematomas etc.

Much research has been done on perfusion and reperfusion including time issues but are more medical related and none relating directly to clothespins.

  OK…I have a BIG clothespins fetish so we have done a lot of research!

Easy if the bottom is caucasion, amply hydrated, has no circulation problems and not on meds that affect melatonin and/or circulation.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

submarriner -> RE: clamp safety (12/18/2006 4:40:22 PM)

Adding to Elegant for clarification, blood flow is pressure gradient dependent. This means that there has to be a difference between pressure in arteries and veins for blood to flow. Pressure applied around the blood vessels will limit flow when the pressure exerted equals or excedes the pressure of the clamp. Blood pressure within arteries, veins, and capillaries vary between submissive and will vary within a particular submissive depending on where the clamps is placed. As far as general guidelines, they don't apply universally to everyone. Use your sub as his/her control, starting with 5 minutes and adding 2 min after allowing 5 min recovery. The longer it takes the skin to return to baseline color the more likely you are in reaching the maxium amount of time of safe play. If the pain can be tolerated by the sub (often pain limits play more than tissure damage) then you can safely use these time constaints for future play. Keep in mind that the body changes with age and disease state, so what can be safely applied when your sub is 20 may not apply when they are 40. Smokers take heed; the arteries can clog with atherosclerosis and limit safe play time, as well as limit play via high Carbon Monoxide levels. Play Safe!

onestandingstill -> RE: clamp safety (12/26/2006 12:11:42 PM)

The rule of thumb for me is 15 minutes on then some time with it off then up to 15 minutes on again.
LOL besides it hurts sooo much more when you take clamps off and rub the circulation back into the nipple it becomes quite a game of torture to remove, revive, and replace them.
For ropes I agree too dark purple or the skin getting cold is a sign it's time to get circulation going again and maybe a good idea to start untying her boobs.

I've seen some girls in the dungeon lifted off the ground by just ropes tied around their boobs. Even their Dom's didn't leave the ropes on the boobs for more than 20 minutes and they were way into extreme booby torture.

GirlyDevil -> RE: clamp safety (2/17/2007 12:29:52 PM)

I've heard that 5min is the max, but than again I only leave clamps on my sub for around 3-5 min and he does fine with it.

Wolf1020 -> RE: clamp safety (2/17/2007 7:30:42 PM)

as a general rule 15-20 minutes is the tops.  Agian, that is general.  It can vary though, if it is a very light clamping it might be longer, a tight one shorter.
