This is All about Population Control?
Well maybe I'm not totally right.

A new Case of Aids Strain is surficing!
After You have sex, and get the Virus,
You go straight into full blown Aids!
Usually after a week or two.
No Hiv first.
All the Cocktails now being taken by patients
is doing nothing for this new Strain of Aids....

My ex~ Always said if She didn't have it by now
She was not going to get it~
Well She got it and We found from the Doctor She
got it,[:'(] but I didn't
I just Pray for Her~~~

Sincerely, eyesofAslave[;)]

I receive the Kaiser Network Daily HIV/AIDS Report, which consists of about 10 articles such as this:

http://www.kaisernetwork.org/daily_reports/rep_index.cfm?DR_ID=28235

It is an extremely thorough source of news about HIV and AIDS.

But I have heard no reports such as you are suggesting. Since this is such an important issue, I will have to ask you to provide credible sources for your statements.

I think the OP is refering to a case of a male in NY that had an unusually fast development from HIV to AIDS.
http://edition.cnn.com/2005/HEALTH/conditions/02/11/drug.resistant.aids/
is a (not in-depth) CNN report.

At least from the reports, there is 1 confirmed case. There was a suspected case in California that turned out to be false. Currently, there doesn't seem to be a lot of solid data on the issue. It's a "sexy" story, so a lot of sources are covering it, more for what it potentially could be than what it actually is.

I personally worry, since the implication is that "regular" HIV isn't such a big deal, but this new scary HIV is the one you have to watch out for. HIV is pretty much a death sentance. How fast it happens in the only question.

sub4hire -> RE: New Aids Threat (2/19/2005 9:01:42 PM)

Actually I got an article from medline on it the other day. It actually appears to be totally different than the one you have here.

They do have a new strain of AIDS, well not sure if it is a new strain but within 3 month's it goes from HIV to full blown you're going to die real soon aids.
I believe there were something like 8 confirmed cases through out the US thus far.
I could have the number wrong. Next time I get AIDS news I'll post a link.

My Gay friend has Aids,
and He confirmd it with me.

Who else to know about Aids then a Man Who already has it??
He reads and studies everything there is about it!

My friend told me as soon as The Man got Infected He was Very Sick
soon after. It was inevitable..

People keep telling me that God is not right, other wise we would not have Hiv-Aids. But I then tell them God is not doing this, Man is~

This Man in Ny. had sex with about 100 gay men so it was
reported..[&:]

A leading reasercher for an Hiv-Aids Vaccine was killed in a
Wierd plane accident in Canada.
This happened quite some time ago.

It seems the closer we get to a Cure, the Farther apart we get.~~!!

What the OP misses in his "Chicken Little" news flash, is that the individual reported in NYC was also a chronic crystal meth user. Crystal meth wreaks ungodly havoc on an individual's immune system and that is a very likely cause of the increased resistance of the virus in that individual.

Personally, I'll wait until I hear reports from someone a little more credible than "my gay friend", such as the CDC, before I start looking for the sky to fall.

Gloria, I wonder if you are thinking of LGV (lymphogranuloma venereum)? It was in the news this month because a virulent strain apparently crossed the Atlantic and might be circulating among a high risk gay population in New York City.

Yes, there are many strains of HIV. In the sensational case reported a week ago its not certain how long he was infected. It might have been as short as two months, or he may have been infected for as long as 20 months. In either case it was faster than normal.

If anyone is interested in reading about this case, there is a good summary of the science as well as numerous links in this article:

DasHunter -> RE: New Aids Threat (2/22/2005 7:19:08 PM)

This is, of course, extremely unfortunate.

DemonTutor -> RE: New Aids Threat (2/22/2005 10:47:56 PM)

An added but of doom and gloom. The protection provided by Condoms may be inadequeate to stop the AIDs virus. While this is speculation on part of researchers and you should always wear a condom during sex, the theory is that AIDs virus is far to small , far smaller than herpes, and other general VD,to be stopped completely by the latex.... food for thought

stef -> RE: New Aids Threat (2/26/2005 2:56:05 PM)

Since the OP's "gay friend" hasn't been able to provide and more scientific data, here's an update on the new AIDS 'epidemic.'

Aparrently, earlier reports of the incident were blown 'slightly' out of proportion. The virus strain found in the unnamed patient isn't as quite as resistant as the public was originally scared into believing and doesn't appear to be readily transmissible.

You have to understand how the media works. Panic sells, baby! Any story you read, especially medical stories, you have to really scrutinize the info. Potential cure for cancer? Potentially not, too. Possibility of a new flu strain? Possibly of misinterpreted data as well.

Condoms are not a 100% guarantee against anything, pregnancy or sexually transmissive disease. When used correctly, every single time, they are much better than nothing though. You can be completely safe from HIV by keeping your legs crossed, as it were, and not engaging in any activity where there is a potential to swap body fluids. Anything else is a calculated risk, even if the calculated risk is very small when you take the proper precautions.
