One of the most terrifying news these last days...in Europe. Okay, England is still Europe. The alleged  criminal supposedly killed some of his victims during the "strangling" BDSM play. Okay, it is not confirmed yet. Still,  the modern time Jack the Ripper copycat is well on myspace  http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=85784962
Why should he not be here?

The link to BDSM play comes from an article in a not-very-reliable tabloid newspaper who also conducted a lengthy and rather creepy interview with the chap who's now been arrested on suspicion of the murders.

Any link with BDSM is tenuous at best, and at worst was a smokescreen erected by the actual murderer.

I'm glad to say.

If he does have a CM account, it's safe to say he won't be using it for a while.....

I've been watching this case closely and no mention of BDSM has been made. Yes a couple of victims were strangled but that does not a bdsm link make.

I did not follow the case closely, cause I thought it was going to take them forever to find the creep and the whole thing was too spooky anyway... To think that he personally knew two of his victims is kind of a mind twister to me. His emotionless confession, (inevitable, as this news is coming from eveywhere) is an abomination and so, is the whole tragedy. Hopefully, the Bobs got their right man. I can't imagine the mental state of the families of the victims and the people around that place...What a nightmare!
They connect him with Sado-Masochism on the 8 hour's news and online... I guess this is a bad time to come out of the closets to our friends, as Mistress and slave.

Living in the uk this case is constantly in your face on the news. No mention of bdsm has been made. The only links i can find that could possibly read that way are that they thought his motives were power and domination and that he had strangled one of his victims and one of the others died of neck compression. This still does not a bdsm link make.
They have arrested another man today and are now holding both men for questioning. The first knew many prostitutes in the ipswich area and had been like a protector to them. Im certainly not saying he didnt do it but to say a confession is on the cards is a little hopeful. This guy has given interviews stating his innocence and i dont think that will change.

There is no relationship between the truth, and that which the newspapers report; the newspapers report what will sell newspapers, simple.

And, if the media say its bdsm related, then for the majority thats what it is. People believe what they read and hear, especially if its something with which they are otherwise unfamiliar.

The effect of all this, will be in part a backlash against Backlash. The police will search his PC, find images and then the story will be that this guy is a serious pervert who was hell bent on killing. Ergo, anyone remotely matching his characteristics is also hell bent on killing.

Personally, I have a feeling this isnt the guy anyway. The murderer is a Polish immigrant living in Ipswich, working as a driver in Felixstowe. His name includes Marius, he is 41 and lives in a street starting with an "i".

the police have made surefire mistakes before.  including linking cases to bdsm.  Wimbldom common comes to mind.

I hate to say this, but it would actually be just a little bit funny if he did have a Collarme account - although nothing about serial murder is really funny.

That aint the point. Folks just cant pass up the chance to say "Oh woe is us! BDSM is so oppressed. The media always paints us in a negative light." ..... So even when there isnt a BDSM link, people will invint a link anyway in order to ~prove~ that we live in an oppressive society that hates BDSM.

Funnily enough im perfectly aware of that but BEFORE we start jumping on the media for portraying bdsm in a bad light surely some link should have been made to this case, which as of yet isnt the case. Otherwise surely that makes us just as guilty of inventing the facts as when the media does it.

Makes total sense. Unfortunatly that aint what folks actualy do.

Here localy there was a nightclub that held "fetish night" on weekends when he couldent find a band to play. However, the place was short on dungeon equipement so it never became all that popular. Eventualy the club booked so few bands and business kept dropping off that the owner of the building sold it to a developer. They smashed it down and made apartements.

Yep, you guessed it. The locals threw a fit claiming the only reason the building was knocked down was because those evil politicians all hate anything having to do with sex and forced the building to close.

Call me jaded, but I get sick of seeing nonsense like that. Check back through some of the older posts I made and you can see the theme of people screaming "opresion" at the drop of a hat for anythign and everythign in the news.

Not sure about the perpetrators of these crimes but this commentary by Richard Littlejohn is as sadistic as they come.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/columnists/columnists.html?in_article_id=423549&in_page_id=1772&in_author_id=322

I wonder if he'd be so blasé if the victims were media pimps.
