Leonidas -> Potential Trolling by Law Enforcement Types - Beware (12/24/2006 10:45:17 AM)

Hello All,

I don't post up here much anymore, but I thought I'd bring something that I'm seeing to the attention of the general community.  Over the past few weeks I've been approached by / spoken to several people via e-mail or chat who seem to want to immediately engage me about illegal activities that they'd like to discuss or engage in that I won't mention here for obvious reasons.

It has happened often enough over the past few weeks that it makes me wonder whether some entity, official or otherwise, that would like to see collarme shut down isn't engaging in a bit of trolling to try to make a case that collarme is a hotbed of these activities.  Have any of you seen a similar increase?  It could be just a conincidence in my case.

I'd also like to ask publically that, if some of those reading here are engaged in activities that you know are illegal where you live, please, for the sake of this community, discuss  them elsewhere.  All it would take is a few people discussing the wrong thing with the wrong people to bring down all kinds of trouble on a resource that is freely provided to the community at large.

Thanks for the heads-up, Leonidas; it's never hurts to remind folks about stuff like this.

AquaticSub -> RE: Potential Trolling by Law Enforcement Types - Beware (12/24/2006 10:49:10 AM)

Scary stuff... nobody has approached me. Maybe it wasn't a cop but just a nut who was using different usernames?

Briefly, we are all aware that there are pedophiles and
all types of undesirables in the world.
Have you seen the dateline specials on the internet pedophiles?
If you are not doing anything illegal, I don't think you
have much to worry about.
Just a thought.

DiurnalVampire -> RE: Potential Trolling by Law Enforcement Types - Beware (12/24/2006 10:55:41 AM)

The TOS does try and keep people from discusing anything illegal in the forums, and the Mods are pretty good about catching it.  Granted there are bad seeds everywhere.  I havent heard anything unusual as of late.  There is a possibility that there is someone who is playing with you. Since CM doesnt advocate anything illegal, and BDSM is not a crime, as long as you arent involved in anything ilegal then there isnt a problem.  Wether they realy are Big Brother trying to get a handle on those of us who arent playing by their rules, or just someone having fun trying to freak someone out...

For those who have replied, yeah, I know that any given individual doesn't have anything to worry about if they aren't engaging in [stuff].

My concern is more for the site in general.  I have no doubt that if you made a profile with the stats and picture of a pretty young girl, and started trolling men about [stuff], it wouldn't be long before you ran across a man who would be willing to  talk about [stuff], or even agree to engage in [stuff], or better yet claim to be an expert in [stuff], just because he thinks he's talking to a pretty young girl who is interested in him.

What I've noticed, and what I'm reporting, is a recent increase in the number of folks who seem to want to talk to me about [stuff].  I took it as a good opportunity to remind everyone that that person wanting to talk to you about [stuff] may not be who you think they are, and you could potentially bring a whole lot of grief down on Collarme itself if you engage in it.

PlayfulOne -> RE: Potential Trolling by Law Enforcement Types - Beware (12/24/2006 11:19:14 AM)

"Law Enforcement Types" do not generally go around starting conversations.  They put themselves in a position for the other party to initiate the discussion, otherwise it starts falling into entrapment.

Case the DateLine stuff that was mentioned, the people who do the on line work go into the chatrooms and wait for someone to message them and start an improper conversation, they don't just start messaging people as a 13 year old asking if they want to have sex.

WyrdRich -> RE: Potential Trolling by Law Enforcement Types - Beware (12/24/2006 2:38:27 PM)

From what the OP is describing, I would be less likely to think actual Law Enforcement than some whacko religious group.

Where are these approaches occuring?  If they are coming up in the forums, I haven't encountered any.  Is there a way to report such an approach in chat?  I really appreciate having a place like this and would hate for it to be damaged by that kind of thing.

angharad -> RE: Potential Trolling by Law Enforcement Types - Beware (12/24/2006 2:44:12 PM)

Whether its law enforcement, religious groups or whatever, its always worth bearing in mind there may be different agendas at work, even if we don't know who or what they are.  Anyone asking those sort of questions, and an increase in those sort of questions is suspicious simple as that, someone has an agenda not conducive to CM, thank you Leonidas.

Quivver -> RE: Potential Trolling by Law Enforcement Types - Beware (12/24/2006 2:52:06 PM)

Leonidas........ maybe its just something in the air.  I too had that thought not too long ago.

Voltare -> RE: Potential Trolling by Law Enforcement Types - Beware (12/24/2006 2:52:41 PM)

I'd have to agree with WyrdRich here - this sounds more like a group with an agenda, or possibly someone(s) actually into [stuff].  In either case, I would report said person to the support staff.  There are tools availible to the owners at the server level to trace IP addresses, making it quite clear who and where these folks are coming from, and blocking them from accessing the site.  For that to happen, though, they have to be alerted, first.

In short - if you're contacted in regards to any sort of illegal activity, contact the support team at CM immediately, so they can resolve the situation.

Devilslilsister -> RE: Potential Trolling by Law Enforcement Types - Beware (12/24/2006 3:08:04 PM)

Why dont you post much anymore?

edited to say :  i'll keep an eye out

nikaa -> RE: Potential Trolling by Law Enforcement Types - Beware (12/24/2006 3:11:53 PM)

Law enforcement typically does NOT start conversations regarding illegal activities.

Perhaps the person is simply into [illegal stuff] or they simply wanted to get a reaction out of you for brining up [illegal stuff].

If someone contacts you via CollarMe or any other forum about [illegal stuff] my suggestion is to save the email or instant message and contact the servers support staff supplying them with the email or instant message as well as the user ID of the person.

SmokingGun82 -> RE: Potential Trolling by Law Enforcement Types - Beware (12/24/2006 5:31:32 PM)

This whole thread has raised my interest in [stuff].

SmokingGuns,

I keep waiting for someone to ask what [stuff] we are talking about or not supposed to be talking about. *laughs*

My suggestion would be to forward the mail to one of the moderators.

FelinePersuasion -> RE: Potential Trolling by Law Enforcement Types - Beware (12/24/2006 8:19:24 PM)

Yes, but you see a lot of bdsm IS against the law,  Beating your slave whipping them, by law it's domestic abuse, wheather they enjoy it or not. Striking your partner is a jailable offence. Depending on your state sodomy is against the law too.

It's a silly law, but a law you're breaking none the less. Yeah you're not really likely to be caught tried and sentanced, but you can't deny a lot of what we do and like is against some law somewhere, such as domestic abuse laws.

Missokyst -> RE: Potential Trolling by Law Enforcement Types - Beware (12/24/2006 8:54:21 PM)

Probably not going to be some law enforcement activity, that would scream entrapment if they contact you first.
But if anyone offers you some "SWEET TEA", run like heck.
