So sorry to hear that you are hurting..time will ease some of the pain..and hopefully when the shock wears off you will realize that you made the right decision to end the relationship.  I have had vanilla breakups before I starting exploring my submissive side..and they hurt.  No matter what type of relationship you are in..when it ends..even if for the best..it hurts!  I hope that you are soon feeling better.  ~Smiles~

I guess it's all part of life. And even tho I don't agree that the feelings are the same as when a break-up ocurrs in a vanilla relationship, the steps to "heal" (for the lack of a better word) are in principle the same...
Some people will need years to overcome, while others might need months or only weeks. I guess it mostly depends on the mental constitution (ack!) of the person, and sometimes luck can play a role, such as meeting someone special or being involved in a sudden family, or otherwie distracting event...

I hope you don't mind a Domme point of view. 
I recently released my slave.  It was very painful from my side so I can relate to how awful it would be from the sub/slave side.  Don't close the door unless there is a reason to do so. 

I broke up with my slave for a total of five days.  We are doing better than we ever have before, and I am pleased with the relationship. 
Sometimes, we all need a break.

As everyone has said loss hurts. However on the practical side try to stay occupied/busy, Watch as much comedy anything as possible, it truely lightens your heart and mood. Try to be with friends and one rule, no talking about the situation or him. And try just going out on some dates or whatever cuz that will help you move on. Best wishes and lotsa luck.
