Status: offline 		I just got back from the hospital because I have had a pain in my right ear also extreme headaches for the past few weeks without a clue of what was going on....I first thought it was a bad ear infection but the doctor told me my ears were clear ..it seems I have TMJ which is causing the pain in my ear...I will have to see a dentist to find out if it is indeed arthritis of the jaw or just from where they removed a tooth years ago...When my tooth was removed ...I heard a loud click sound and ever since then I have had pain...it comes and goes...I may have to sleep with a mouth piece or possibly get braces..oh what joy..anyone else familiar with this???

Status: offline 		thankyou. i took a Ibuprofen 600 mg and I went fast to sleep...I FEEL MUCH BETTER...i took a warm shower and for now, i'm doing well....just can't give oral sex anymore.. just kidding...so long as I don't open my mouth too wide..

am glad you are feeling better. If I get really stressed then I clench my jaw in my sleep and it will lock up on me , it can take a while to settle down and stop aching. The mouth piece helps to keep you from clenching so hard. I wonder if you have been under more stress lately, like with any medical condition stress will greatly exacerbate it.

Status: offline 		I have some experience with this- unfortunately.
First- if the dentist wants to fit you with a custom-made $300 mouth piece, say no thanks and go get a football boil-and-fit mouth guard for about a buck at any sports place.
 
Second- years ago a colleague (another chiropractor) showed me a very easy isometric exercise for the mastoid muscle that cleared up my TMJ pain for years and that i still use when it acts up (mostly after I have been ball-gagged for awhile).   Place your fingers against your jaw and press your jaw against them- hold it and press as hard as you can- with the jaw mind you and NOT your fingers. Then relax- as you relax then you press with your fingers so your jaw moves in the opposite direction it had been pushing. With the jaw still offset, repeat the pressure against your fingers. Relax and push the jaw farther. Do this 3 times on either side several times a day. It stretches the muscle and loosens the joint.
 
I hope I have described the exercise well enough. And I hope you feel better!
