Ladies and Gentlemen,

What products do you use to clean your toys - in particular, vibrating insertables that can not be dunked in water?

I have been using hot water and soap, plus a clorox wipe to kill any bacteria.  I am wondering if the clorox wipe has chemicals that are harmful to the human body or if they evaporate off in time.

Thanks in advance!

~Kara

I am by no means an expert, and any feed back from others on my opinion would be appreciated.

Chlorine diluted with water for any thing entering the anus, rinse well, and I would recommend alcohol (straight up or diluted) for Vaginal toys.

For non submersibles, put the same mixture in a misting bottle, spray paper towels, and wash/wipe items multiple times. (The dollar store usually has these bottles) If you have multiple bottles don’t forget to label or color code the contents.

Realistically, you are fine with just soap and water unless you are sharing them with someone (which you really shouldn't do anyway.)  You can use rubbing alcohol, but in order for that to really make any kind of disinfecting impact you would have to actually submerge it and let it soak.

I would be concerned with what you are leaving behind with the Clorox wipes.   I have never seen a container that didn't tell you to wash your hands thought after using them.  As well as rinsing anything you clean with them if the surface comes in contact with food.

If you are really worried about  how clean a toy is, cover it with a condom.   Especially good for all those toys you don't feel comfortable taking near water to wash.  Otherwise, just wash before and after use.

Baby wipes were something regularly used in my past, they are designed to clean away bodily fluids, and if they are suitable for use on something as tender as a new-born's butt I figure they are pretty safe anyhwere. Even many toys that are not fully waterproofed can survive under a running tap if held correctly, I would assume anything desgined to be put inside a person is waterproof at the end that is supposed to be inserted.

I don't get the end of the toy that can't be gotten wet wet. I wash the  top of it by hand keeping the battery end up out of the water pat dry.

mshamble -> RE: Toys: hygiene (1/5/2007 5:17:53 PM)

i personally use condoms over the toys i use,but buzz wipes from any good sex shop or ann summers is good.

i do still wash as you never know how far  them body fluids get too.

unscented baby wipes are also a good thing to use, if still in doubt any diluted disinfectant to soak could be used........ie; dettol, savlon only use the ones that say can be used on the body.

subailz -> RE: Toys: hygiene (1/5/2007 5:32:24 PM)

i use dettol on my toy also or i use hot soapy water then smother them with cocoa butter oh and then dry it off with a baby wipe im random liek that

proudsub -> RE: Toys: hygiene (1/5/2007 5:45:00 PM)

I use soap and water, then an alcohol wipe, but I don't share toys either.

KaramelGoddess -> RE: Toys: hygiene (1/5/2007 6:31:49 PM)

Aahhhh Dettol, how could I forget.
Thanks, that's what I'll be using from now on :)

Oh heavens no - I do not share toys.

There are some slim vibes that you can not fit a condom on, I was actually refering to those.  Should have been more specific I guess!

I have a lovely one that has a lil curve at the tip for the g-spot.[8D]

Baby wipes dont have a good antibacterial.
Alcohol is much more effective.
Bleach type products as well as Alcohol can dry out certain toys(gel for example).
I use a bentidine cleaner and also boil any toys that can tolerate it.
To clean around tops of vibrators try a Q-Tip in rubbing alcohol/bentidine.
If sharing toys using a rubber that completely covers the toys is a good idea.

Also...you should have 1 set of toys for Anal and a separate set for Vaginal, even cleaning cannot ensure that no bacteria is passed with anal to vaginal play.

In the toy store I go to they actually don't recommend using alcohol or bleach on plastic toys as they said it can break down the surface of them unless they are hard plastic, glass or metal.
They recommended "Before & After" It's a cleaner designed just for adult toys.
The web site on the bottle I have is  www.classicerotica.net.
You spray it on, rub it all over well and then rinse off. It supposedly kills all germs and bacteria on the toys.
Good luck,
suzanne

suzanne,
Where did you buy yours?
Onlinestore?
The web site you gave are for wholesalers/distributors.

Thanks,
Siona

amativedame -> RE: Toys: hygiene (1/6/2007 6:20:56 PM)

any decently large adult online store sells some kind of bottled toy cleaner... if you want that exact product, Amazon sells it through several stores.

FangsNfeet -> RE: Toys: hygiene (1/6/2007 11:22:07 PM)

Hibiclens soap. You can't go wrong with it.

At Night Dreams in Bethesda.
They are a retail store, but they did UPS me a book once as I just couldn't get out there any time soon. Their number is in the phone book (I think I can't post it here) they are on Cordelle Ave in Bethesda MD.

KaramelGoddess -> RE: Toys: hygiene (1/7/2007 6:08:26 PM)

Thanks everyone!

I live in Bermuda, and adult stores are very few and far between.  I have never seen any cleaners like these, but when I travel abroad I will certainly have a look for them.  Until then it's Dettol and hot water or alcohol wipes.

Your help is much appreciated,
~Kara
