Does anybody have any good links on making your own toys? I'm talking about how to make toys for your own use based on what you have, *and* how to make higher-quality toys with raw materials.

CalliopePurple -> RE: DIY Toys (1/10/2007 5:15:56 PM)

www.thefrugaldomme.com has a lot of information about that

Thank you, but is that link correct? It's not coming up for some reason, it's coming up as an unrelated website. Maybe it's just me?

www.woodcraft.com has a lot of cool hardwood and laminated stock in 1/4 and 1/2 thicknesses which make great paddles.

Hi Karzschen, try your neighborhood hardware store. I get most of my idea there. I made some Nipple Suction tubes from Adhesive Syrings, and they work great.

Also Alligator Clamps, with Screws and Wing Nuts to adjust the tension, Bobby Pins. The list is endless.

GOOD LUCK, Looking for mine, BalletBob

Thanks to everyone for all the wonderful sites and suggestions. It is my hope that they have not only helped me, but anyone else curious about this. If you have any more, please, by all means post them. The more the better in this instance! =^-^=

Hey,

I've spent a lot of time researching the various toys and costumes available, but I prefer not to buy online, and there aren't a lot of kink shops in my locality, or any kind of shops for that matter lol  (rural ireland [:D] ).  So... you'll hear it elsewhere, but with an idea of the kind of thing you're looking for firmly in mind, go to second hand shops, and it's amazing what suddenly becomes very interesting to you!

My fav site www.frugaldomme.com has been mentioned already.
I will take a print out of an item I like off an online store webpage to the
hardware store and buy things to make it going by the pic.
The potty chair bishop made W/we all but drilled the holes in the seat and added springs at Home Depot...That was the funniest trip yet...the looks W/we got...priceless  [:D]

Home made spreader bars can be done with the wooden dowels you find in the craft section at wal-mart insert eye-hooks(I used a small size) on the ends to attach hooks that can accomodate chains or cuffs to go around the ankles or wrists.
95% of My stuff is hand-made.
I can get all sorts of ideas just looking at things. Its aweful sometimes....I cant concentrate on the things I need for the house...I have Dungeon equipment on the brain...LOL

Is there anything in particular that you want to make? Whips, restraints, furniture? Sar of Treve is a very good site for leather work, but if there's anything in particular you're interested in making it may generate more helpful links.

If you look, a lot of items are everywhere, many you don't have to make, and plenty of hardware to get creative if you do make your own (as has been somewhat mentioned.)

Hardware stores and marine stores are great for restraints.  Rope, chain, clips and clamps, zip-ties, wood, tools, velcro, straps, (something on every isle!)  Drug stores, for "first aid" items, like tape, ace bandage, blindfolds, ear plugs, etc.  Pet stores are awesome!  I go into "Domspace" in a Petsmart.  Collars of all sizes, leashes, rubber dog bones (great for gags, some even insertion!), dishes.   Some rope and a rubber ball make a frugal, but effective ball gag.  Ordinary kitchen items like rollers, wooden spoons, plastic spatulas.

Sexual toys are harder, and best bought from a store for safety and cleanliness reasons

The great thing about making your own, or using everyday items, is that when I use them again later, or use the same kind of item outside of a "scene", I am reminded of the pleasure and use all over again!  It does make ordinary shopping more difficult to focus on though.  I can't hardly go into any store without seeing something I could use for a toy!

I agree. W/we made a killer ballgag from PetsMart with two thin leather collars and a ribbed rubber chew toy that had a hole running through the center of it. Didn't even have to drill! And the added bonus is that it's adustable in size, because of the ribs. Jaws a little tense? Just position your teeth closer together between the ridges. Really need to be stretched? Add a few more. Also, because W/w used two collars, buckled on the sides, it makes a handy tie point for head restraints or reins.

And Home Depot's got all sorts of fun things, as mentioned previously. Paintsticks are fun and free. [:D]

Best of luck,

~kittyn

I would be interested in seeing the instructions for the singletail you made.
