If there is any good news- its that HUD handles the lease,. the govt is always right...right?

Quietly and firmly assert your rights when necessary, and lean on friends when available.

Hope 2007 isn't as scary as it might seem right now.  Good luck - I bet you land on your feet.

I did meet the new owner and his wife. they seem elegant and lovely.
in the adult world we know that people - once they have the legal right may and do use it-- so they could be saying whatever needs to be said.

knowing tho how much work being a landlord can be...and what low lifes it can attract- they will have a tenant who doesnt cause trouble. im not a 20 year old that wants to sow wild oats.

"quietly and firmly" well said!!!

I know they really want the property. I have learned I am to meet with the atty to have my interests spelled out...as mom currently owns the place. I trust this atty- he shoots straight.

Ill have to understand my lease inside out- and comply. as HUD oversees the lease- they know Im not a trouble maker, so im good there.

If you break HUD rules you can be banned for life on the programs. So that is an incentive not to play games.

My back is shot- and I simply cant move.

My brother said this good very well be a good thing in the end.

Thanks for your post. Alot of things went heywire this week.

Why do you think you will be discriminated against for being gay?

being gay isnt someting i broadcast- but nor do i hide it.

it never really crossed my mind until today.

the property has a house and 1 apartment on it. units 4 and up are covered by discrimination laws.

if you rent out one unit you CAN discrininate,.

aside from that- the sexual orienttion coverage is spotty at best.

my brother thinks i ought to buy a place and be done with it. the little bit of emergency money ild like to keep for an emergency.

We only had the legislation passed in the UK this week, against homophobic discrimination for goods and services. Until this legislation, it was perfectly legal to refuse sale/rent to gay men, lesbian women, transvestites and transsexuals - though protection has long since been in place in relation to ethnic/religious discrimination.

It was on the news - gay rights' demonstrators outside Parliament, along with vociferously hateful Christian groups protesting that it would remove their right to refuse on faith grounds and that the bible was clear on all this.

Where its going to be difficult to prove though, is that this mainly affects private businesses and individuals who have the right to do business on their own terms with whom they wish, and do not have to account for the refusal of a contract. I believe it will be necessary to prove that it was solely because one is (or is thought to be, even) homosexual, that contract was refused. A defendant could argue the contract was refused for some other reason - "I dont do business with guys with ear rings" for instance?

In general- being gay isnt the boogieman it was in the 70s. Today everyone has a coworker, cousin or neighbor that is gay. So it isnt the shock thing it once was.

I dont push my lifestyle in others face. at times things are maybe easier as im not after the ladies- so im no threat to the heterosexual chase.

I thought the UK was ahead of the US in this- but I guess not.

One job I had there was confusion as to weather one could or could not discrinate-but since this is a very litigious society, I can say I had no problems. I was there to do my job and done it well. People come to thier own suppositions too- in this locale- at 25 you have 2 kids and are on relationship number 2 or 3.
