Yeah, they don't show that one too often for some reason. I had to google it once 'cause I couldn't remember the title.

I am old, so I would have to go for the older horror movies like Exorcist, The Omen, the 1st Friday the 13th movie, 1st Nightmare on Elm Street movie, the original Dracula movie from the 1930's...just to name a few

I like Event Horizon. Some of the quick edits have some truly insane imagery. Conceptually the film is fun also - I'd mention more but I'd hate to spoil it for anyone. Good actors, semi silly plot - just fun.

Chaingang.....

I'm surprised..... you usually have good taste. [;)]  That was Laurence Fishburne's worst performance, ever!

Anyways.....The first two Alien movies were great.

True, it wasn't The King of New York, but hey, everybody is allowed at least one B movie.

One that I liked that hasn't been mentioned was the 80s version of the Fly.  For a while that defined a horror movie for me, the story of the relationship between Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis and what happens really got to me.  Of course I was pretty young and it WAS made in the 80s so I'm not sure how well it stands up LOL.

I also remember seeing the Alien when it first came out.  A friend went with me and we had heard it was really scary.  We had made some joke or comment about counting the scares.  Well the theater starts playing the movie (or maybe it was the previews, could they honestly have played a movie without a preview once upon a time?) without dimming the lights at all so the first thing that happens is they loudly play the drums before the 20th Century Fox fanfare, and everyone jumped a bit at that.  I joked that was "Scare #1".  The rest of the movie turned out to be quite good as well, as did Aliens, though that is almost more action film than horror film.

And my thumbs up to some of the other favorites mentioned:

The Omen (the original, haven't seen the remake yet)

The Shining

Videodrome (pretty weird, and some good stuff for BDSM fans.  I remember freaking out an early girlfriend when I mentioned I actually got excited by some of that stuff.  Sigh).

Daddyslittlgirl -> RE: favorite horror movie (1/15/2007 4:30:19 PM)

My favorite and the scariest movie ever for me, The Shining [sm=hair.gif]  other great ones....Dark Water, Stir of Echoes,What Lies Beneath, The Gift

THEFREAK -> RE: favorite horror movie (1/15/2007 4:59:39 PM)

Anybody ever seen The Changeling with George C. Scott, circa 1980? That was something of an underrated movie...but most enthusiasts know it as a VERY good horror flick.

It was a decent re-make, much gorier, and made just before Jeff Goldblum started to turn into a cliché of himself - and Geena Davis, what's not to like?

Audition ... for sure. It took me three says before I could return my friend Raiko's phone calls.
