I don't place an especially high premium on "intelligence," though I know a lot about the concept's history and why its a social value because I studied up on that topic. :) Personally, I tend to define it practically, that is, how it shows itself in the context of a person's life. Are they able to handle the crap life throws at them, or are they permanently flummoxed by crisis after crisis? Do they seem at ease with themselves and the world? I guess, thinking about it, I would say that, at its best, practical intelligence produces a kind of quiet confidence in a person.
