i have a big problem with it. the military should never be used under any circumstances within the boundries of the us with the exception of national defense against a foreign enemy.  Never in any form of policing action, ever never.

just another violation of our constitution rights, no biggie. like waco, no biggie.

In my final comment, I would like to go on record as stating:

"Visualize Whirled Peas"

It needed to be said, and now it's done.

Thank You.

Did you see my earlier post on a threat to whirled peas on this thread?

RealOne:
I am talking about disaster relief not Waco or Ruby Ridge.  My post was about why the military can use tax payers money to air drop hay to  some rich guys cows (that should be paying for his own helicopters and hay) and they took so long to responding to Katrina.  Where they should have been dropping food and water to the suvivors of the storm..
I could not agree with you more the military should not be used against American citizens for police purposes....that is the job of the cops and not the military.

So considering russia declared war on japan before the usa does that mean then that russia won that war for the americans?

missturbation:
Russia won the war against Germany.  Russia did not declare war against Japan until after we had dropped the atomic bomb on them.

ok gotcha...

i ran acros an article today where their is growing evidence that there is foul play there.  Apparently they broke exactly where the repairs were being made, then like other things that mysterioulsy fell down blamed it onto shoddy construction.  typical mo imo

the trick of course is to figure out what they just "snuck" past us or are trying to divert our attention from.

"My point in mentioning Katrina in the first place was that it was an example of Anarchy in action. Its horrible and people beg for someone to pick up a stick and restore order."

Because they're not properly trained to restore order themselves.

That's the lesson. DO NOT LOOK FOR HELP. YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN.

You know, that's the lesson of 9/11, too. The people who got OUT of the WTC after the initial strikes? They did NOT listen to their bosses, who told them "It's ok, just go back to work". The SURVIVORS just picked up and got the hell out.

I was reading an article on this in Psychology Today a year or two ago.  Panic reactions generally result in bad outcomes in the modern world, but in the case of the WTC, those people who panicked survived.

Sinergy:
I think you are doing the suvivors of that incident an injustice to characterize their actions to leave a burning building against their bosses orders as panic.  To think and act creatively in a stressful situation is not panic.
thompson

From the anecdotal accounts of their actions given to their therapists and friends, they themselves described their actions as panic.

I am simply relaying an article in a magazine without personal judgement.

Sinergy:
You know or should know that a persons conversations with their therapist are confidential.
As a grad student you should also know the value of anecdotal data.
thompson

I am aware of both of these things, thompson.

However, in a statistical study of a population of, say 5400 people, and 1000 of them panic and run away, and 540 of the ones who panic survive, and 0 of the ones who didnt panic dont survive, a claim can be made in that situation that panicking is a positive trait to continued survival.

If the 540 who survived tell the interviewer that they panicked...

Depends on the way an individual panics. Some panic by shutting down completely, they are unlikely to survive in many circumstances, others panic by running, this can be a good survival characteristic assuming the running is in a safe direction.

I was in a class for my job that was taught by a fellow mock assailant who was also a licensed psychologist.

His comment is that "fight or flight" leaves out an essential element.

It should be "Fight, Flight or Freeze."
