Vendaval -> Home remedies and comfort foods for the common cold (1/26/2007 3:01:56 PM)

Greetings A/all,

I am stuck at home suffering with the common cold and
doing the usual routine of rest, fluids and OTC cold
medication.  The echinacea tea and vitamins are also
part of the treatment.

Do you have any home remedies and comfort foods
that you would like to share?

I boiled some eggs and baked some biscuits, but
my appetite is way off and everything tastes very bland.

Sincerely,

Vendaval

I go for the old-fashioned chicken soup (or veggie broth) and herbal tea.  Both usually make me feel a bit more cozy..I wash down a couple of tylenol with them..and I am good to sleep for a few hours.

get to feeling better,
Kasha

I make noodles in chicken broth and drink a lot of fluids.

My mother taught me that it takes three days to get a cold, three days to have a cold and three days to lose a cold- and my experience has been pretty spot on with that.

So, try and look to the days ahead where it will get better.

And tylenol cold and sinus every few hours is good too. along with rest.  Sickness is usually your body's way of telling you that something is out of whack.

warm to hot mashed potatoes feel great on a sore and scratchy throat...they kinda stick on the way down.

also, I find Gatorade helps too, the electrolytes perk me up a bit.  it's one of those things you either love or hate, but if you love it, it helps.

hope you feel better soon [:)]

airborne - a homeopathic med that you can find everywhere now, works wonders
also more water than you care to think about! more more more!
cranberry juice is my preference over OJ for pick me up juice
and you can never beat a veggie broth with noodles yum yum

this is what i do, and i am usually only in bed a day or so

and dont forget to shower [i always hate getting out of bed to shower coz the water makes the pressure in my ears feel funny] but if you have a vicks tablet for the shower, its fricken awesome

Herbal teas with lots of honey do wonders for a sore throat.  Honey is very healing.  I also buy those cough drops with the real drop of honey inside, and tuck one in my cheek at night.  The candy part melts and the honey bathes your throat overnight.  I've woken up the next morning with a sore throat completely gone.

That is my most favorite comfort food.  It is something my unmentionables would eat when they didn't feel good.  Potato soup works well too.  Miso makes for great sipping when I'm under the weather.

Put a little bitty shot of some good Irish whiskey in that tea and honey, you'll sleep like a baby.
Best ever night time cold remedy.
