I like the idea of a basement dungeon.  The idea of a 'descent' works for me.  Even, a sub basement beneath the basement.  Or something like the roman catecombs.  Abandoned, falling down buildings also sound cool.  Like, some place that used to be occupied, but isn't anymore.

I'm feeling very Edgar Allen Poeish today. :)

SimplyMichael -> RE: What would your fantasy Dungeon look like (1/27/2007 7:34:39 AM)

Since 99% of dungeon furniture is built of 2x4s and looks like shit, creating a victorian playspace is going to be hard but if you pull it off, I want to be the first to make a reservation as it sounds dreamy to me.

To me, WIIWD will always have an edge of fantasy, I LIKE getting out of my space and  into another, which is one of the reasons I love parties and place like Power Exchange in SF.

Power Exchange would meet some of the posters dreams, it is on four levels, some are dark and dreary, some are filthy, some look like sci fi or laboratory rooms.

There is an amazing dungeon in Chicago that I would love to visit, called the Domain Gallaria or something, too lazy to google it.

I was thinking about Noahs post and I guess for me my feelings about D/s match his in that I do it everwhere, but I want to get kinky in a playspace/dungeon or even a hotel room, something about being somewhere else.  Hmmm, sounds like I need to look inside me, something there...god I hate growth!

Amaros -> RE: What would your fantasy Dungeon look like (1/27/2007 7:46:13 AM)

As long as it's a fantasy, it would pretty much be an entire estate, with a reasonably sized Victorian style house, at least two stories, with a basement and an attic, at least an acre of fenced in property, with pools, bowers, etc., maybe even a tropiary maze, gatehouse, etc.. And there would probobly be a room fitted out in just about every style mentioned, and a few that haven't.

I kinda like the Mary Graham look for the activity room - the spindlier stuff would probobly be better in the strictly socializing areas.

How about this in an exam room?

Haha, I have to design rooms for stories, it's not just an obsession.

HighonLife -> RE: What would your fantasy Dungeon look like (1/27/2007 8:38:07 AM)

My preference for a "playroom" is just that....an area of considerable size for us to "play" in. I simply can't abide clutter or the feeling of too much stuff in too little space.

For now we are content to use a spare bedroom...but that is a temporary thing. Climate control is a very important aspect to me so I reckon the attic or the barn is out (though I really really really like that barn idea!!!!!) My girl is really sensitive (in a clinical way) to cold temps.

We have an examination table as the only significant piece of equipment that would be considered "out of place" in a typical household. The stirrups and catch basin make for some interesting options and the myriad of drawers and compartments provide lots of storage space. The IV rack makes a nice place to suspend an enema bag.

Our next "addition" is a changing table. I'll probably build that myself and include shelving for diapers, powder, lotions, etc... Ultimately we've talked about having a garden sized tub and shower in our playroom but that is a good ways down the road I think.

Amaros -> RE: What would your fantasy Dungeon look like (1/27/2007 9:21:22 AM)

At one time, I was planing room with "levels", ala Kramer - i.e., just low, cushioned platforms around the outside, maybe a dias in the middle - this would probobly be a more practical approach, adn could be easily modified.

Currently, about the only think I'm really considering is a sort of modified opium bed, whcih I'm drawing up plans for. The rest I can fab as needed from camp chairs and so forth - collapsable and relatively disposable. I do have some hardware collected from various sources that might come in handy.

Knee chairs are a pretty versitile piece of furniture you can keep out in the open.

Nosathro -> RE: What would your fantasy Dungeon look like (1/27/2007 10:25:48 AM)

I have in mind a room that is entered through two large woodend doors.  The room has stone floor and walls.  Lighting is dim, only wall lamps designed with dragons (I have seen these as Spencers) with bulbs that flicke like flames.  Directly across the enterence is a diaz (a platform about a foot and a half high made of stone.  A single high back chair is on it, the back of the chair is 3 to 4 feet high.  On the front side of the diaz are metal ring in the stone and there are small animal furs on the floor, one near each ring.  One side of the room has cages inside the stone wall and about 2 feet above the floor.  On the other side near one corner is a large wooden post with metal rings and chains.  On the other corner is a St Andrews Cross.  The post is secured to both the floor and ceiling of the room.  About two thirds of the way in the room are several large cushions on the floor.  One each side of the diaz on the walls are whips, floggers and other intrutments of torture.

I wish you well

What would your fantasy Dungeon look like?

An underworld of rock and flame-filled rivers surrounding writhing orgies of devil bitches, locked in unremitting licks and kisses and strokes that will never sate. Toward carnal pleasure they are viciously and preternaturally consumed, a sea of tangled bodies held always on the brink of orgasm; teeth clenching, claws curling and thighs shuddering for an end or release, yet never does it come. And so in lust they are condemned to an endless torment somewhere between waking and sleep, a world filled with the music of female moans, kisses and wet licks, of flesh slithering silken against flesh, of screaming and begging for but a single drop of satisfaction in a tireless arousal. Oh, to lay back and look out over these fields of bodies that stretch for as far as the eye can see! To be its grievous keeper, soaking up the spirit of every sweet, stolen pleasure. Now that would be a lovely dungeon, indeed.

Why always the basement?  Why not the attic? Or the living room? Or the tree in the back yard?

Natural soundproofing [;)]

With only one room, i prefer the traditionalist look. Brick or stone walls, dark wood, patina'd iron. If i could have a few, i'd also have a nice white operating room, and a dark concrete cell/interrogation room as well.

Saint -> RE: What would your fantasy Dungeon look like (1/27/2007 12:52:00 PM)

My ideal dungeon is simple, yet complex. It doesnt have any form or substance yet as I will build it to suit the one I find someday. When I find that special person, then I will build a dungeon for her and define it according to her tastes. :)

That aside, I would love to have a dungeon built in a very large basement with black walls. The walls would have a night time mountain mural painted on it in blacklight colors. Running along the baseboards would be those tiny lights you see in the aisles of movie theatres, only with blacklights instead. In the 4 corners would be statues of gargoyles from Tascano, the giant outside ones that wiegh close to a thousand pounds. Between the statues would be black, wrought iron candle holders about 5 feet in height. In the very center of the rooms ceiling I would have an I - Beam running across it with a commercial pivot joint attached to the center. Hanging from this joint would be a thick cross ring that would have chains dangling down to meet the 4 corners of a wrought iron, canopied and king sized bed that was held off the ground to gently sway with each movement made. The bed would of course have either crimson or jet black satin sheets and I would maintain a gentle breeze from hidden vents at all times. Perhaps I would even put in hidden speakers in the walls so that you could have stereo surround sound while sleeping or playing. The walls of course would be adorned with various toys and equipment for whichever use was most appropriate that evening.

That is a dungeon I would like to build, but seeing as the person I may meet someday will most likely have a differing taste than mine, it will not likely be built anytime soon.

It's Galleria Domain 2 and yes, it's a very nice space. Not sure I'd say "amazing" but definately nice.  There are only a few pics on the site, but you can get an idea of what half the place looks like. Unfortunately only members are allowed, so visiting from out-of-town is a bit difficult.

The other Chicago club is the Leather Rose, which you can visit for a night even if you're from out of town.  LRA isn't nearly as "polished" as GD2, but still a fun place to go.

It's a real shortcoming of the Chicago area that the local clubs can be so hard to access.  When I was in SF I had no trouble visiting The Citadel (a beautiful space BTW) - my friend simply called and put my name on the guest list in advance.  From what I understand they've moved to a membership structure, but the pricing is affordable for visitors to join.  I enjoy being in different places - especially ones decorated to look different from our regular mundane environment.  It helps put me in a different headspace, to be surrounded by different smells and textures and sounds, with furniture we don't have access to at home or at the places we regularly visit.  And specific spaces designed for certain scenes - like medical or harem or interrogation room - can go miles for generating emotional responses before anyone has said a word.

Any other favorite dungeon spaces people know of?

Emperor1956 -> RE: What would your fantasy Dungeon look like (1/27/2007 1:40:00 PM)

Ahh the perfect fantasy dungeon.  I've got several (it is fantasy, right?).

I like the idea of a clean, postmodern room with lots of hidden restraints, soft surfaces that can be made hard, hard surfaces that are surprisingly soft...etc.  Think what Phillipe Starck might have designed for Torquemada.   Indeed, the lobby of the Starck-designed Hotel Delmonico on South Beach in Miami could be a perfect dungeon.  Lots of flowing white curtains dividing the space, candles everywhere, even the spa for medical/laboratory scenes.

How about a Tuscan Villa?  I'd decorate a bit differently, but the Villa Alexandra has the right basics.  When I get mine, I'll invite a few of you *GRIN*.  Note the outdoor fireplaces, moroccan tent, and the master bedroom.  This was the home of a Cardinal, so I think a nasty little chapel for flagellation/torture/repentance scenes would fit in.

Conversely, I can get into a Dungeon that LOOKS like a Dungeon.  Did you see "Hannibal"?  Mediocre movie, but the scenes in Florence in the Duomo and other great crumbling buildings had me thinking "PLAY SPACE"!

A bit more real, and closer to home, are two spaces that are no more.  For several years, "The Playhouse" in Baltimore was in many ways a perfect dungeon.  In an old warehouse type building, on three complete floors, you had everything ... medical spaces, school house spaces, Victoriana, even a complete installed jail cell.  And some really nice amenities, like parking inside the building (when you are transporting some poor thing naked and tied, its nice to not worry about clothes in between home and dungeon, y'know?).

And until a few years ago, there was here in Chicago a lovely semi-private space owned and operated by a well known professional Domme.  It had a great Victorian schoolroom/parlor, several very strong, versatile and attractive large wooden suspension frames, a great medical suite with some wicked (and functioning) old scary medical devices and gyne chairs, and because it was one of her specialties, a full size adult baby nursery.  You could always find SOMETHING to do (and often, someone to do it to you, or to do it to).    And it was immaculate, and except for the designated ash tray area, smoke free, two things my dream dungeon would be (and sadly most real dungeons are not.)  Edited to add:  Much of the equipment from this dungeon is now at the Leather Rose, which appears above, in Holly's post.  The space isn't as polished, but the play is still good.

Now I'll daydream the rest of the afternoon away.

E.

Mine would have two small bedrooms put together and look like an exercise room with a padded bench for "resting" and a high bar and large wicker baskets for hiding toys, etc.
Maybe a couple more exercise machines.
One a wall would be a beautiful painting of a Mistress on horseback and the knight in a trance as She whispers in his ear.

windchymes -> RE: What would your fantasy Dungeon look like (1/27/2007 1:56:50 PM)

Well, with the advent of this marvelous new invention called "air conditioning", attics are pretty doable these days[;)]

I'd like to have an attic room that is accessable only by a spiral staircase that is locked away behind a false wall somewhere, say inside a walk-in closet.  You push the hidden button and a panel slides silently aside.....

Victorian/Gothic, etc. is always cool, but I also have considered something sort of futuristic looking, all glinting white and silver, cold steel tables and benches, control panel something like Captain Kirk's Barcalounger Command Module, flashing lights, surround sound, etc.

So....would there be any mercy in this dungeon of yours?

I mean...I'm just curious is all....

Just for some fun and variety, how about a kinky-circus
scenario?  Visualize pony and puppy shows  under the big-top,
the ring master subduing misbehaving slaves, the Mid-way
full of sadistic games, like dunking tanks and stocks,
and a fun house filled with distored mirrors and rooms
and blood curling sound effects.

So too hot and too cold are bad things? Are you topping Goldilocks or something?

I can picture some suffocating going on up there too, and by golly it works for me.

I think I prefer someone having some control over those things.

So now you're getting down to topping from the bottom upstairs. I hardly know vertigo from there.

There is something creepy and eerie about being in a filthy old room.  The devices and furniture made out of old railroad ties, and crappy busted up pieces of furniture that was garbage picked.  There would be spider webs and a dirty cold cement floor, rusty chains, broken windows and the feeling of my skin crawling, not wanting to touch any part of it, sit down anywhere or lay my body any place, but having to do it anyway.

One of my favorite chapters in 9 + 1/2 Weeks, was her description of the cheap motel room with a dead roach in the bathroom!

I want an older house with a basement, and convert the basement into a very luxurious Victorian atmosphered room but with all sorts of cuffs and chains attached to the walls, a sumptious assortment of whips and floggers, padder benches platforms Etc.A lovely crystal chandelier, black walls, thick red oriental carpets, and an opiim bed.

Sounds like the The Gates in Oakland.
