Has anyone experienced intense itching  with the onset of menopause?  
 
I started itching about a week or so ago and it gets so bad that it drives me crazy.    It is mostly on my chins, my lower back, inner arms and breasts.    It feels like I have bugs crawling all over me and I have scratched so much that I am left with little scabs from it.  
 
The itching comes in bouts and when it hits it is awful.   I am 45 and have no other symptoms that I know of.   But while researching this on the net today, I noticed that itching was a symptom.   I also have headaches, fatigue and often sneeze, (allergies maybe?)  
 
Anyway, just wondering if anyone else has experienced the itching?

I have hot flashes, and when that's going on I'm itchy from being sweaty, but not just itchy alone.
Have you changed soap or laundery supplies lately?
Maybe it's just a contact irritation.

No itching, but OH MY GOD, the hot flashes!!  I swear my body temperature goes up 15 degrees in 2 seconds flat.  Just shoot me now!!  (I'm about a month shy of 44 now.)

What makes you think this is related to menopause?  I've never heard of such a thing.

Is it possible you have an actual allergy?
 
Okay...I Googled 'symptoms of menopause' and found many sites including these:

Dry skin can occur in menopause.  Where do you live?  Are you sure it's not a winter dry skin thing?

Well, I'm not going through menopause yet, but, I remember when my mother was, she also came down with a case of Shingles at the same time... lovely, huh? Have you talked to a doctor? Just in case? For now, try taking some antibiotics on the skin and internally.

I know I get very itchy this time of year with it being winter, and sometimes, my body does funky things during that "time" of the month, even itching, so, it's a possibility... but, still, probably should talk to a professional just in case.  Good luck!

Itching I have not experienced. Headaches, fatigue, forgetting everydamnedthing, hot flashes and all around mean nasty bitchiness.......yes.

I thought it first it was dry skin, I usually get that every year and it is only on my lower back.  I don't have a rash of any kind, or any patches of dry skin, I just itch.    
I haven't changed laundry soap, or bath soap, and haven't eaten anything different.  
 
What made me think it might be menopause was a friend of mine said she had intense itching on her belly, and her gyno told her it was a lack of estrogen associated with menopause.   I looked it up on the net and found several sites  that indicated itching is a symptom of peri-menopause.   It has to do with the decrease of estrogen which causes dry skin.     So, I don't know.
 
All I know is I have never itched this bad in my life, and it is driving me nuts!    And it seems to move.   It will be my lower back, then move to my shins, then my head, breasts etc.   I itch one spot, and next time it hits it will be another spot.   It happens several times a day, and feels like I have bugs crawling on me.  It is horrible.

You know, I just remembered that before I started using Desert Youth on my face I got red itchy patches on my face the last couple of winters. It got so bad I thought I was allergic to something in my eye makeup. Fortunately I found this disgustingly expensive cream that cleared it right up.

Vaseline Dry Skin Lotion and Aveno Oatmeal baths may help you.
It sounds like dry skin to me.
If it keeps up have a Doctor check it out.

I don't know anything about menopause and if it causes itching.

... but I do know itching.  Try not to scratch, it will just make it itch more.

The only time i had itching like you describe i had scabbies which my daughter had brought home from the day care where she worked.  I suggest you see a doctor.  I hope it clears up fast. I don't remember any itching from menopause.

It took a lot of my time to research the various aspects of menopause because as much as it is a natural process it seems like there's very little practical information.

The crawling bugs sensation is often felt by menopausal women especially in the legs.  Not sure why.  Obviously every woman has different sensations, intensities etc but yes, what you describe, especially if it feels like bugs more than the kind of itch you feel from a rash or dry skin, has been associated with menopause. 

When i first read about this phenomonom i was just glad to know it wasn't just me.  Like a lot of the discomforts, the crawling bugs sensation went away on its own.
