Devilslilsister -> Pinworms (1/31/2007 2:18:46 PM)

i think i'm going to cry and i'm really trying not to, cos it wont help.  But GOD DAMN

First it was a massive flea infestation, then the pets had tapeworm.. along these lines i got some weird spots (that the nurse told me to take benedryl for)

AND NOW my wee one has pinworms and I HAVE pinworms.  And i'm gonna cry

Her/our general doc doesnt know what to give me, my OB says to call them back tomorrow cos they dont know, and all the research i've done on the the net has given me ZERO medications i can take while i'm pregnant.

i am ABSOLUTETLY disgusted.  Completely, utterly digusted.  Everything i touch - i'm like EW.  I'm about to set up a routine of showering 3 times a day, and washing my hands about a million times a day and just randomly spraying everything i see with lysol.

and that would all make me feel much better if i knew the suckers were out of our bodies.  But they woooooooont be [:(].   On top of that no matter how much i make everything sterile - i still see myself spreading it everywhere i go.  thats GROSS.  Absolutetly fricking completely insanely GROSS.

i dont get it.  [:(]  i've never had a flea infestation like this, my pets have never had tape worm, and no one i've ever known has had pinworms............ and now all of this in like 3 months AND being pregnant?  What the hell is up with that?  Is this Fate having a joke on me?

i hate bugs, i absolutetly fricken hate bugs..... and i am being over run by them.  On top of that i think i have a cold.  I am so not feeling well enough to deal with this. And there is like no solution to it either.  i read some where that you just have to wait the pinworms out while pregnant.  Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm......... should i start bawling now?

creepy, disgusting bugs in me till june?

Can some one, anyone pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee help me find something i can do that will kill the little fuckers so i can THEN go about sterlizing everything around me?

I wonder if something like this would be ok while you are pregnant. It's an herbal cleansing program.
Im not saying it works, Ive never tried it. But it could be an alternative remedy for someone in your situation.
Just be grateful it wasnt one of these: http://www.damninteresting.net/content/Hookworm.jpg ! It has teeth!

sleazy -> RE: Pinworms (1/31/2007 2:46:56 PM)

http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/514502_3 ......pyrantel pamoate should be used for symptomatic pinworm infections in pregnant women.

http://www.medem.com/search/article_display.cfm?path=n:&mstr=/ZZZ8JF8I1AC.html&soc=AMA&srch_typ=NAV_SERCH ..... pyrantel pamoate (or pyrantel emboate), may be recommended for a woman who is pregnant and has a pinworm infestation. The infestation may require retreatment in two weeks. Measures to prevent reinfestation include strict personal hygiene, regular laundering of all bedding and underwear, examination of all family members and playmates of an infected child, and treatment when necessary.

Hope these are of help to you

knothere -> RE: Pinworms (1/31/2007 2:53:24 PM)

ahh, google.
*Pyrantel is safer for expectant or nursing mothers. * this is OTC I think.
please do not use black walnut. it is great for non pregnant ladies who are not breast feeding, but doses are too unreliable to attempt without the direct care of an  herbal Doctor! or osteopath with a solid herbal background.
its going to be ok, but I understand the eww factor.
as a mother myself,well granny now, I have been there,done that,sigh.

http://www.parasitecleanse.com/PurifyTips.pdf

Ah, yes, here in the fine print it says dont take it if you are pregnant or lactating.

Devilslilsister -> RE: Pinworms (1/31/2007 6:00:42 PM)

The ones you guys mentioned also say "speak to a doc" before taking.  Cautionary.. dont take if your pregnant.

After a LONG discussion with the pharmacist....... he doesnt even know.  Basically most pinworm medications are Class C.. which means they havent been tested for on pregnant women.. or something.  Birth defects in lab rats.  Have no clue what it does to humans.

Atleast the symptoms of it make me feel abit better - Other symptoms may include loss of appetite, irritability and abdominal pain.

OMG i've been dealing with all of these.  Thanks for the link, i have no clue why i couldnt find it.  I'll check out the info on the drug as well.

Thank you - )  Very Very Very much.

On a positive note - as i was complaining to my daughter why i was so miserable...... that i couldnt take any meds to get rid of them...... she said the cutest thing

"when you die, they'll go to heaven with you"

Devilslilsister -> RE: Pinworms (1/31/2007 6:05:00 PM)

and this page says the excat opposite

http://www.bchealthguide.org/kbase/topic/detail/drug/hw49694/detail.htm

Do not give pyrantel pamoate to pregnant women, breast-feeding women, or children younger than age 2 without first talking with a health professional.

lighthearted -> RE: Pinworms (1/31/2007 9:26:01 PM)

I know this might seem like kind of a stupid suggestion, but there may be some logic here...what about eating some really spicy food?  I don't think it could harm the baby (at plenty of spicy stuff with my 1st) but may fry those little f-ers....

babyangelfire77 -> RE: Pinworms (1/31/2007 9:33:21 PM)

as a child..when we would get pinworms..my grandmother would give us garlic bread..with lots of garlic and butter on it. I know..sounds weird..but it worked. We never used the medication..ever. It was just a good dose of the great tasting garlic bread.. and i know garlic bread is safe for pregnant women and lactating moms..

justheather -> RE: Pinworms (1/31/2007 10:56:32 PM)

I wonder if garlic applied directly to the affected area might also kill the worms.
The thing is, you have to keep treating, most likely, to get the eggs that havent hatched.

I know some people are going to say "ew" but I think having a clove of garlic in your bum is better than having worms.
Just sayin.

babyangelfire77 -> RE: Pinworms (1/31/2007 11:07:18 PM)

Well, the lifecycle is unique in that...at night (i know..many will think this is really tmi) the worms crawl out and lay eggs around the anus and adjacent areas. It makes it itch..the person scratches..getting the eggs under their nails..and when they eat..they ingest them. So..the eggs go through the digestive tract and then hatch in the large intestine/ or rectum. There..they again go through the cycle of crawling out and laying eggs. So..if you just put garlic in your bottom..it probably won't stop the cycle. I am not sure how the garlic really works..but somehow it broke the reproductive cycle. So if the egg gestates in the digestive tract..then that may be where it is best treated..
i honestly thought the whole garlic bread cure was an old wives tale..till my child came home from school once with them and i gave her garlic bread. It cured her as well..so something about it works..and it is much safer and far more palatable..

justheather -> RE: Pinworms (1/31/2007 11:12:04 PM)

Unfortunately, I am quite familiar with the life cycle of the pinworm.
The garlic has to reach them, either as a metabolite in your blood, as a digested waste product or on direct contact. It just seems sort of logical (whatever that means, I guess) to me that if the digested and/or metabolized garlic is effective in killing and/or sterilizing (in effect) the adults, it would work topically as well, if not better.

Of course Im totally pulling all this out of my you-know-what.

Edited cause I cant spell this late at night.

Devilslilsister -> RE: Pinworms (2/1/2007 5:54:48 AM)

I've a question.  They crawl out to lay eggs...........  THEN what do they do?  Crawl back in?  Die?

i want to kill the little bastards....... and they are like "alive" in your stomach and intestines.. how do i kill them THERE to stop them coming out?  grosssssssss

i got alittle phobic i guess last night.  The doc told me that antibacterial stuff kills em too......  i've germ X - a hand sanitizer.  he he he.  So i applied it on my ass.  Burnt abit, but i figured it'd kill the little bastards when they crawled out.  i'm slightly freaked out by the whole thing.

I've also a whole canister of fresh garlic = )  i've no issues with eating tons of it.  My doctor should have a suggestion of something i can take today.  So hopeully (everyone cross your fingers) i can take something and then sanitize the whole house again and finally feel clean.

Thanks for the tip on the garlic.  i was hoping some one had a "home" recipe.  Especially since they are supposed to be extremely common.

She dies. Apparently, the laying of the eggs is pretty violent.
Hey, I just read that the males have TESTICLES! Crazy!

KatyLied -> RE: Pinworms (2/1/2007 6:09:25 AM)

I just read that link, those are some highly involved parasites, with their uterus, vagina, testicles, etc.  I am so ocd that I'd probably be eating garlic, inserting it in my rectum *and* rubbing it all over my ass at night.
I hope you get an answer soon for this.

BRNaughtyAngel -> RE: Pinworms (2/1/2007 6:27:52 AM)

Try reading up on food grade diatomaceous earth.  It's used as a natural parasite killer/cleanser.  There's no chemical reaction in the body like drugs or herbs.  It comes out the same way it went in (well it goes in your mouth and out your ass), but you understand.  It can also be sprinkled in carpets and such to kill off fleas, etc....

calamitysandra -> RE: Pinworms (2/1/2007 8:36:55 AM)

That it says that you should not take it without the advice of your doctor when pregnant is a safety measurement.
Tell your doc about the med Sleazy found, he can verify it, and then you can take it after having spoken to your doctor.
And make garlic bread. Loads of garlic bread.

mixielicous -> RE: Pinworms (2/1/2007 9:00:43 AM)

my heart goes out to you lilsister, i hope you like garlic!!!!!

BBBTBW -> RE: Pinworms (2/1/2007 9:24:47 AM)

What about a mild garlic enema?  I am not sure what your doctor would think about an enema while you are pregnant, but that goes directly to your intestines through your anus.  Seems the most likely to me.  But I do enemas regularly so it is something I would do.

Devilslilsister -> RE: Pinworms (2/1/2007 10:21:52 AM)

i heard that the eggs only live for a few hours... and that article says 20 DAYS.. OMG..... i am probably going to freak out even more.

i havent heard from the doc and i am probably going to call and have a fit.
