I personally blame the media, and the people who make movies. Cause they all seem have to have slim models in them mainly, but when it comes to the real world.Obviously not everyone is a beautyqueen,as the real world is not full of models or slim ladies for that matter. This notion puts a terrible pressure on young ladies today i think i must be slim otherwise society won't except me for who i am.And in all honesty thats all nonsense,as being to slim is unhealthy please think of that, please put yourself first not other people's wishes.

All ladies try to be a non conformist as opposed to a slim conformist.I'd say so long as you are happy in yourself please don't get brainwashed by the media or so called friends,to be something else that you are not basically. Please don't get brainwashed by this must be slim culture, just be happy be healthy, and eat what you want to and be happy with who you are.As no one is perfect i certainly am not,we all have our little faults no matter how perfect you may think that you are.You must just try your best in life, and to do the best you can in any given situation. But above all please be happy folks,as happy people tend to live longer. My very best wishes to you all from Paul.[:D]

Mercy, you aren't a woman.  Case in point, I can walk down the street as version A (size 12) or version B (size 10),  Guess which version gets more nods and smiles and attention.....yep, size 10.  There is a lot of pressure to be thin, actually to be skinny.  At my height, size 10 is skinny.  There were times when I would freak about my size, lately I don't really care.  But I would love to be a size 10, mainly because of the positive feedback.  But I don't want to diet and starve myself to get there.  Pass me the chocolate.

I am a size 12 for the first time in my life.  I am not skinny, nor am I fat.  I am quite happy with how I look. I dont care whether I get nods and smiles walking down the street.  If someone doesnt like it, tough!

Im healthy, Im happy and if I might not be perfect... Im close enough for my tastes :)

I'm still vain enough to enjoy the smiles & nods.  But I also like vanilla icing in a can.  See the dilemma?

I honestly have had a large weight changeover the past 20 years..  I was a local beauty queen when i was 18 and also was a size 16... at 30 I wore a ladies size 20.   now at 40  I am down to a 12..and honestly the attention i have collected hasnt changed at all.  I have always taken good care of my self   My hygeine has always been good I have always had a nice head of hair which is eveidetnally the "thing" that attracts alot of men to me these days (back in the day I had a set of tahtahs on me).

SO for me honestly I really do not see a difference between being overweight and at my current size.  but that is just my experience
have a great day

Termyn8or -> RE: There is nothing wrong with being a bit overweight not everyone wants to be or is skinny. (2/1/2007 8:26:36 PM)

There are different comfortasble weights for different people. And there are different preferences. My buddy Jim liked large Women. Just the way he was. And when he hooked up with Bubbles (he really did call her this, affectionatley though) nobody hardly ever mentioned weight. Sometimes he would cook up something and she might say "You want me to get fat ?". He would say something like "More cushion for the pushin".

I am right now, 20-30 lbs over. I am comfortable, I used to be heavier. I feel better now, it is easier to bend down, stand up, sit, lay, walk, just about everything. But I lost the poundage for health reasons, not for aesthetics.

Fat girls can be sweet and cute too, and even be good in bed. Although alot of guys will pass then over. But here's the kicker, some of the guys are fatter !

I think for one, the general idea is that it is OK fior a guy to have a beer belly. But why is that ?

I have a theory. In the times when Mankind was 'evolving' out of a nomadic existence, and became farmers and such, nature dictated that Women take care of the children. Nature did this by putting breasts on the Woman. Can you picture trying to breastfeed while plowing a field ?

As the generations went by, males became stronger because of the greater physical demand on them. Not that her work was easy, but it did not require a great deal of physical strength, or at least to the same degree.

Whether by adaptation or natural selection, it seemed males grew bigger.

So, by instinct, the Woman sees the Man, and when he is larger, that is seen as an asset, because there were problems, times of strife in war or other dangers. The Man naturally became the protector.

Now when a short guy gets fat, OK, so what, but when a tall guy gets fat he looks like a house. Women would see that as an asset, as he would make a better defender of home and hearth, and there might also be the innate component that she knows he can get food. Without it, there would be no spare tire on him.

Men on the other hand, were mainly attratced by beauty, fat Women were not considered desirable. Strange as it is, I am a Man and I can't explain it.

Thing is, 'they' have put this desire to be skinny and good looking into everything.  Think back "Mirror mirror on the wall, who is fairest of them all". Miss Texas, Miss Tenesee, Miss Ohio. The certainly do keep it coming.

I work on TVs, biguns, but still TVs and sometime they have to test play. So they are on the local Fox NTSC channel. On this channel is the Tyra Banks show. Now all we need is a clean signal, so that is the channel, but the other day it caught my eye.

I don't think Tyra's all that good looking, and usually I think her content is too mundane, they do makeovers and crap like that. But this one had little girls, pre-teens, who were already obsessed with being skinny. They were showing them pictures of girls who were totally mormal weight wise and alot of times they said "She could lose a few pounds". They were also shown skinny girls, and some of them still saw them as overweight.

What the TV puts out may well be the ideal. But boiling it down, first of all why are so many people so interested in looking at pictures ? when TV was invented, they thought the novelty of it would wear off quickly. Instead it has grown into a monster, a tentacle of the Beast for you Christians. I really believe it has.

Mine is turned off.

Actually I don't support that people should just be happy with themselves and not care about their weight.

I don't support trying to fit some popular notion of "physical perfection" either.

yes but it seems most r lookin for that skinny one, and never looks past that what is inside

I agree with okiesub. I find that those who say a good sub is hard to find usually mean, a size 2 good sub is hard to find. I've been the gamit of sizes from girl's size 12/14 to a size 18/20.  The funny thing is, I still get compliments. Sometimes, thought I find that racially, it makes a difference. For instance - more black or hispanic males like a fuller figured body than white or asian males. I'm speaking only from my experience. But there are many white males who defy that, since I usually date white men... I guess they like my boobs[:D]. Hee hee.

Good thing I could care less what "most" are looking for.

hisannabelle -> RE: There is nothing wrong with being a bit overweight not everyone wants to be or is skinny. (2/1/2007 9:22:45 PM)

i think that it's important to be happy with your body, as long as you are healthy or are willing to take responsibility for weight-related health issues.

i am a size 14-18 (us), depending on the clothing item. i'm learning to be happy with my body at my highest weight ever, when i spent a number of years in the hell of eating disorders bouncing from my lowest weight ever. it's been a struggle, but i've decided that if i can buy a pair of pants that looks good on me and feel good about it, then it is worth it. in the past year, i've gone from a size 12 to my current size mainly due to medications and stress and health issues (with the onset of fibromyalgia it's made it increasingly more difficult to exercise as much as i used to, etc.), and although i would like to get down to a size 12-14 simply because i felt more comfortable there, i'm not letting that desire push me into not enjoying myself or activities that involve food, etc., nor am i letting it push me into unhealthy eating and exercising habits.

i think that if someone cannot look past my size, that's their problem. i get plenty of compliments from guys who either don't care about size, or like a woman who is comfortable in her own skin even when she's a bit bigger than what everyone else seems to want. i don't worry about the ones who feel the need to seek out only thin girls...or girls of any size, really. He supports me in my endeavours to lose weight but also thinks it's much more important to be happy and prefers me to not be a stick, either, so weight hasn't been a huge issue for us.

i mean, i'd be lying if i said that if i got to choose my body size, it wouldn't be smaller than i probably will ever be again. but the reality is, i don't, and i have a stubborn, fucked up metabolism on top of everything else :P so, i figure it's much more a waste of time to be unhappy about it than to just get on with life and do my best to live joyfully.

Fat is fat no matter what mirror you stand in front of, you either like it or you don't and spouting a mantra "I like myself as I am  I like myself as I am.' isn't going to change nothing.

I like the occasional cigar, it is unhealthy, it could kill me and standing in front of the mirror and saying 'I like cigars, I like cigars.' isn't going to change the fact that they are unhealthy.

SusanofO -> RE: There is nothing wrong with being a bit overweight not everyone wants to be or is skinny. (2/2/2007 12:21:08 AM)

This whole size thing is such a crock of BS anyway. I remember when I was about 7 or 8 years old, the entire fashion industry "down-sized" the sizes for women's clothing - so the could potentially sell more clothes, because women wouldn't feel as "fat" in the size they wore (they really did this - I remember my mother talking about this - and she paid attention, because she was, at one time, a model).

So what in 1966-67, would have been a size 6 - is now a size 4 - and what in those years would have been a size 10 is now a size 8, and 14 is now a size 12, and so on. So - I am actually a size 10-12, not the 6-8 I think I am (breaks out in a sweat).

Or wait - what size am I - really? I don't know. I can't worry about it all day anymore, either.

- Susan
