You went there first, domiguy. So WHO doesn't have the abilitiy to stay on topic, or to reason???

As for the war I don't have time....I can tell already you have an opinion...However...Doesn't fit into the context of this discussion....You don't seem to have the capability to stay on the topic or the ability to reason....So if you would like to debate or take exception over what I have written feel free....otherwise I don't have the time for you.

It's just that this is the "guy" currently in office....Proclaimed "born again"...His actions which seem not to be inspired by any "Christ like philosophy", that I am aware of, have killed thousands....That is all I was trying to say.

The "seperation of church and state" isn't a term found in the Constitution anywhere.

And people can vote for Christians if that's what pleases them.

So, what's your point.

I believe this country was built upon the idea of seperation of church and state.......I could be wrong but I don't think so.

domiguy -> RE: Jesus please protect me from your followers.... (2/10/2007 8:10:51 AM)

The concept of separation of church and state is an important interpretation of the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment, which reads, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof . . . ." The phrase separation of church and state was popularized by Thomas Jefferson in an 1802 letter to the Danbury Baptists. The phrase itself does not appear in any founding American document, but it has been quoted in opinions by the United States Supreme Court. (The first such mention was in Reynolds v. United States, 98 U.S. 145 in 1878.)

Although not a "written" part of the constitution it is an accepted notion....But notions come and go!

Good Lord, man.  It's a fucking tag line.  Get a grip.  You don't like it, block domiguy.  I'm sure he'll get over it.  I've said it before but apparently not everyone got the message...This is the Internet people, the Internet.  You are having a disagreement with words on a screen.  Do you honestly think that you are going to change domiguy's mind?  ROFLMAO.  See grip comment above.

No, you missed the point there. About the similarity between Christian bashers today and Nazisism...

What I see in much of what portrays itself as Christian today, is akin to naziism. (btw, can we all agree not to capitalise naziism? It doesnt warrant it).

But this is not a surprise, since naziism relies for so much of its dogma, on a perversion of Christianity.

That so many people who like to think of themselves as Christian, have not contemplated this fact, is why so much of Christianity comes across as akin to naziism; the scapegoating of one or other group for the problems in the world, and the promise that the destruction of such group is essential, along with anyone else who disagrees with their approach in even the smallest way - evolutionists, for instance.

To me, its simple. A Christian is one who has faith that the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross in the place of the believer, is sufficient for them to be purified before their God, subject to the believer associating himself with Jesus through not only faith, but works. Anyone can claim that faith, but as I believe it says in the NT somewhere, "faith without works is dead".

And there's the thing; the works that so many Christians perform, if they perform any at all, are not only not along lines that would associate them with Jesus' reported character and deeds, but are in fact totally opposite to that goal. And this is nothing new; it has ever been the case, the difference today being that the media technology being employed allows this error to be perpetrated to greater extent.

Of course, this does not mean that everyone who calls themself Christian is in error, merely that the impression we get is that this is the case. This I believe, is down to the fact that the emptiest vessels always make the most noise, and that the true Christian, having understood and associated with Jesus' humility does not require or seek out audience, and so goes unnoticed.

Its also not to say that Christian morality is necessarily a bad thing, but then its not a great deal different as a system in that sense to any other religion. Where it goes awry is in its reliance on sources which Jesus specifically resisted; much of the OT and much of the NT unfortunately, which latter tends to repeat much of the earlier Judaic/Mosaic teachings, because after all the people concerned were Jewish and that was the viewpoint from which they understood Jesus and his mission.

This is also something which many Christians miss; that the purpose of the OT is to show that Jesus is the promised Messiah, sent by God. It is not meant to form any part of or to influence that which Jesus taught or wants for us, and yet it is so often permitted to be part and to influence. The OT could be argued to be divinely inspired, yet it is still a work of man and must therefore be held secondary at best to that which Jesus as God preached. That much of its intolerance and hatred is repeated in the NT is natural given the situation of the players, but this is not to say that it is necessarily a good thing; the players were human, not divine. Neither is it essential for Christians or Christianity to hold true anything in the OT above the divine lineage of Jesus; divine creation is not requisite, for instance.

So, Domiguy's sig line is apt in the circumstances of our world; it calls on Jesus to protect from those who claim to be his followers, the inference to me being that it does not call for protection from those who have associated themselves with Jesus through atonement (at-one-ment) through faith in him and consequent works.

bandit25 -> RE: Jesus please protect me from your followers.... (2/10/2007 8:23:49 AM)

Yes Sanity, he did and you gave it, but then you proceeded to flame others...that's the part I don't understand.  Everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion.  I know you aren't saying that they aren't...you're just saying that everyone else's (unless they agree with yours) is wrong.

Sanity -> RE: Jesus please protect me from your followers.... (2/10/2007 8:28:01 AM)

And I'm not getting flamed?

Please.

His tagline is offensive to most Christians who see it, and for the life of me I can't understand why that's acceptable. Were it any other group he was using hate speech towards there would be outrage... but with the Christians it's okay.

Give me a break.

cjenny -> RE: Jesus please protect me from your followers.... (2/10/2007 8:29:15 AM)

Ah LadyEllen. I swear I am not stalking you..much. All I can say is that once again I am all green [8D] .

Envy..not mold.

FemmeOwner -> RE: Jesus please protect me from your followers.... (2/10/2007 8:33:43 AM)

Not only what you said, but also.. the ones who take the most offense????? THOSE are the ones the quote refers to!

bandit25 -> RE: Jesus please protect me from your followers.... (2/10/2007 8:39:00 AM)

Yes, you are.  But it seems to me that you're the one who is doing the stoking.  Look, I'm a Christian and I'm not offended.  It's a joke.  You're taking it way too seriously.  Hate speech?  It's a tag line on an alternative style forum under Polls and Other Random Stupidity.  It's hardly hate speech.  He's not proclaiming it from the mountain tops.  I know...I live in Chicago and I haven't heard it.

Have you read any of domiguy's posts?  You should.  Maybe then you'll see it's just a tag line that's all.  Peace.

sensualmagirl -> RE: Jesus please protect me from your followers.... (2/10/2007 8:41:30 AM)

Very well put LadyE... as a former Christian (Catholic) who lives with a vanilla partner who is former Muslim... we both beleive in Jesus' (yes, Muslims were brought up with Jesus too... so, I need protecting from a lot of their followers!)  true teachings, but we do not affiliate ourselves with any religion due to some of the more "loud" followers being closed-minded bigots and fundamentalists (Both religions)... I completely agree!  I don't think God (Jesus or any prophet thereof) would approve much of what's going on these days.

I haven't been reading the other little argument going on, becuase I don't like conflict, so, if anybody is upset with something I said because it goes against your current stand, I appologize, these are just humble opinions.

How about: Jesus, please protect me from your loud and obnoxious followers.

DaddiesLilGirl06 -> RE: Jesus please protect me from your followers.... (2/10/2007 8:42:06 AM)

I like the tag line. And Sanity, to those like me who have been judged against by the people who say not to judge others for lest you be judged. They got a taste of whats its like to be judged after they judged someone else. Not sure if you got that. I was judged by so called christians. In many different christian beliefs. I became pregnant at 16. But because I didnt give my child up for adoption and took responsibility of MY actions I got judged and kicked out of so many churches. I love Jesus yes. But most of his followers. NOPE. They judged me. They got what was comin to them. And yes it was many different beliefs along the christian lines that I was judged by.

I think it's funny.  If God did in fact create us ten we were given a sense of humor just for occasions like this.  If people find it offensive they just need to find out what happened to their sense of humor and stop taking themselves so seriously.  Not everything in life needs to be turned into a society endangering dilema...now lobsters on the other hand...

You think that most christians are offensive?  How many have you actually ask and they said they were?

I have been telling people about this mean guy online with this great tagline and he REFUSES to let me touch it...for a couple of week now, I would say I have told about 50 christians...likely more....I am also a christian...and I have yet to have one of them tell me they are offended....you are the first...and only as of yet.

I am at work today...is saturaday afternoon...there is a church below me that is in service...would you like more opinion?

Why do you say that. Would one have to be Black to take offense at "just a tag line" that was hurtful towards Black people?

As I said before, I am no Christian. But domiguy asked for opinions and I for one think that it's ignorant to go out of your way to be mean and hurtful towards so many people, the majority of which are very nice and decent in every way imaginable. They could care less what the hell you do in your bedroom. It isn't THEIR hatefulness that is the question here...

hot1 -> RE: Jesus please protect me from your followers.... (2/10/2007 8:54:09 AM)

lol....well....read my tagline...give the blond a break eh   you knew what I meant....

but hey thanks for clearing up the confusion for the others <S>

Maybe I am still drunk from last night...lol...am almost afraid to go read what I posted...lol

bandit25 -> RE: Jesus please protect me from your followers.... (2/10/2007 8:55:09 AM)

I know you didn't direct this at me, Sanity, but here's the thing.  I doubt if domiguy "went out of his way"...to be mean and hurtful.  I think the very reason he started this thread is that some guy in another thread was screaming (all caps) about his tag line and just wouldn't let it die.  I thought domiguy was seriously confused as to why anyone would find it offensive.  Again, it's a tag line.  It doesn't mean anything.  Ok, now I've made my point.  I'll shut up.  Again, I'm not trying to flame you, I just think you've taken it too seriously.
