I think a lot of that has to do with the persons involved.  When email comes from someone who has a profile or forum history reeking of desperation, cluelessness, misogyny, anger issues, a lack of social skills or any number of unpalatable behavior traits;  the urge to respond is obviously not going to be all that high.  You clearly don't fall into that radish patch.

Midear Stef-

I really have to wonder if common courtesy even exists online these days.

Yes, it exists. As much here as in real time. And it is a two way street...i personally reply to all e-mails even if it is to inform of my unavailability - and for some of my polite replies, i have been slammed. i just look at it as seeing someone's true colors at a very opportune time :-)

There are many Masters, Doms and Misstresses on this site, that by their posts and their profiles create in me an instant respect for them and there are several that i admired enough to write to . Not one of them has ever lacked common courtesy and not responded... it exists.  And several of them have responded to you in this thread :-)

i agree with those that have advised you to get into your local scene because your lack of experience, no transportation, and demand that a slave come to you because of your financial situation are not things i personally would seek in someone i was handing control over to...

this is simply my humble and very respectful opinion,
                           ~j~

edited to include Misstresses :-)

I haven't sent or received hundreds of messages, but the sentiment is true for me, too. In fact, people to whom I have written have been so generally kind and responsive (even if the response is, "no, not interested") that I am surprised when someone doesn't answer. As many have said before (but, loving the sounds of my own voice, I will say again, lol), people have different styles, and some may be overwhelmed with mail. I never have been, so maybe that's why I *can* take the time to respond to those who write more than a one-liner. In general, though, I find the message area to have been very civil.

i don't think common courtesy ever truly existed online.

MsSonnetMarwood -> RE: Is common courtesy dead online? (2/7/2007 2:17:04 PM)

Actually, quite a few people I have been in contact with online have been courteous.

As for the rest, eh...it's not worth spending any time worrying about it - although I do get some humor value out of it.

If Socrates didn't corrupt the youth some 2500ish years ago none of this would have happened!  Glad they killed him off, but sadly the damage was already done.

When I read this sort of post, or the more common 'everyone here is a fake' whinge fests, I always have the same reaction...

What site are these people on?

In about 4 years here on CM, I have found non-responses to be the exception, rather than the rule, and even, IMX, most of the 'No's were at least, marginally polite. I have met a lot of wonderful people through this site, and made some good friends.

Well in your case this is understandable, look at your photos, they won you the eye candy award didn't they[:D]

It is not only that, but you are one of the most warm people on CM, and I bet that warmth translates to the people you have contacted.

Yup.  Well, personally, I didn't even notice the pictures at first (except for the obvious one) and its a good thing, because they

probably would have scared me off.  But I did notice the warmth.  And, after reading a couple of hundred forum posts, realized it was so consistant, decided it was probably genuine.  The way one presents oneself makes a huge difference. :)

In response to the OP, sometimes what appears to be a lack of courtesy is a simple matter of pragmatics.  When I was first looking, I really did try to respond to every mail.  That kept me logged in for a couple hours every day which only encouraged more mail.  It was a no win battle, and I eventually gave up.  I wouldn't take it personally.

SirKenin -> RE: Is common courtesy dead online? (2/7/2007 5:46:24 PM)

I have had 4 or 5 that did not respond.  Interestingly enough 3 of them were on my admirers list, but did not respond to a hello, and the other two have not logged on since I sent the emails.  I had one rude reply today in response to a request for a more specific idea of their location as I knew the rough area where they lived from driving taxi through there.  No big deal, I blocked her.

I do not request a relationship from any of them though, or even hint at it, as I am just not interested, so I generally seem to get friendly responses in return.  It makes me wonder how the OP came across.  Maybe they come across as a goof or as a desperado or something...or as the point as been aptly made, creepy as hell.

Real0ne -> RE: Is common courtesy dead online? (2/7/2007 5:54:11 PM)

Ever notice these profiles that want your biography?

Here is why i always do one liners now days and never look back LMAO

Yep it's difficult....I've met a few very cool and interesting prople. This site is what it is.

But for the newbies I thought I might translate guy speak (Looks over shoulder to make sure "The guy Police" are not present.)

#1)Guy says... "Looking for someone to chat with"....Definition:   looking for someone to fuck.

#2)Guy says...."Looking for friends".......Definition:  Looking for someone to fuck...but not buy dinner.

#3)Guy says...."Looking for someone to just hang out with."...Definition: Looking for someone to fuck....plus I'm going to do rotten things to your ass and mouth.

#4)Guy says....."Looking for a LTR."  Definition:  A relationship where I "swear I have deep feelings" and possibly might even promise "monogamy" in the hopes that these words will get you to eat some pussy.

Just some thoughts....All of these things I am looking for in my profile.

I can handle discourteous.... it's downright rude for no apparent reason that gets to me. I've posted very little, and been off line till recently.

I've had kinder, more courteous inquiries and responses here than elsewhere on line.  For that I am thankful.

I grew up in Chicago. the mafia gets the finast peice of azz. the drugs come in via automobile - inside of them- to Chicagoland car dealerships.  NO ONE touches the load- until  mr X retrieves the drugs.  from there- the contraband gets distrubuted via the bars.

if you are male in Chicago- you better have big money to get hot P%%%%Y.  if you are a female- you wont waste your time on players, deadbeats, and guys who live w mommy.

See?
