It is winter and my skin is so dry. I'm hoping for creative & workable ways to put moisturiser on my back where I can't reach.

I like to use moisturizing oils for my back, I usually keep some in the shower and put it on right after I shower so the skin is still wet.... it just kind of drips down your back and you can kind of get it around when you dry off.

For oils, my personal opinion is to stick with oils like Apricot Kernal, Avacado, Almond... things that "feed" your skin instead of say a baby oil which is full of petroleum products (this is just my opinion though).

I have very dry skin in the winter too... well, all over my body except my face

I get dry patches all over, I use the oil and then a moisturizer too after the shower.

the best thing i've found is a pH balancing lotion, like amlactin (i use amlactin). it's expensive and it doesn't always smell that great, but it's worked wonders for my winter-time dry skin.

Maybe try putting lotion on one of those long-handled, soft back brushes made for the shower.

Check the local discount stores and buy yourself a sponge-on-a-stick. I've ound thin one, long ones, scratchy ones and a couple that hd an odor that, I didn't care for but since they can be purchased for a few bucks, it makes them an acceptable and thrifty expense.
Using them as a swab to apply oil to those hard to reach places offers you a good scratch as you apply the oilsoaked sponge.

Hi cjenny,

Do you have a bathrub at home? I highly recommend
a nice, warm bath with almond or sesame oil. Check
out the bath oil that Neutrogena makes and also see what
your local health food store has in stock.

Definately hit up the dollar store, the closest one I have is Dollar Tree thats a national chain. They have the back scrubber things and also some even carry things that look like the scrubby but are actually made for applying lotion. Also they carry creamy baby oil thats more like a lotion. I absolutely swear by it, plus they carry body powder like goldbond, but only a buck for the huge bottle. That helps with the itch too. I use it after i wax and it feels sooo good.

Also an olive oil sugar scrub may help. just mix sugar (raw sugar is coarser than granulated sugar) and olive oil in a bowl making sure its more on the thick grainy side (more sugar than oil) and just slather it all over. You'll get goddess skin after that

I also have a problem with dry-skin in the winter to the point that my skin cracks and bleeds. So far, what i have used in moisturizing lotion all burn my skin cause of perfume.

if any know of a product that has no perfume and wont burn........i would be happy to know.

andrea? I use some Burts Bees products on my general body area but my face burns so badly that only a light layer of vaseline can be used. The last face product I did use was Olay body quench, it burned but did not cause redness. I try a lot of baby products too but I dont like their scent.

try cetaphil or lubriderm for super gentle stuff
a little pricey but worth it

Also theres a company called DHC that makes extra gentle stuff

Try Cetaphil for faces. It's the only thing with sunscreen i can use on my face.

I use either pure vitamin E gel or pure aloe vera gel on my
face before putting on any kind of creme. Neutrogena
has several products that do not contain fragrances.
You should also check out the skin care section at your
local health food store.

The main reason I will not use Olay products is because
the perfumes and fragrances cause my skin to burn.

This is a British product - may not be available in the USA - but E45 cream is the best moisturizer I have ever found. It is unscented, not greasy and it makes your skin feel like warm butter.

As a sufferer of eczema I have to be careful what creams I use and in winter I seem to struggle more to keep the dryness under control. I have recently purchased a laser lift machine and ive found it is working wonders, patches of shin that have been dry for weeks have gone and it only takes about 10 minutes a day... well worth a try!

AmLactin is the greatest skin lotion ever invented.
One caveat: Unless you are a hard core masochist, don't use it directly after shaving. The lactic acid is actually in the form of a salt. You know the saying "Rubbing salt on an open wound"... Nuff said.

Lukewarm showers, drink more water and get a humidifier. Remember to keep the humidifier clean. Hot showers will pull more moisture out of your body than they will out in, lukewarm ones won't strip the moisture from you.

Try omega three supplements flax, fish and borage oils. I started doing this a couple of yrs ago. Not only did my dry skin get better but so did my complexion.
