Hello all, I hope you're all enjoying your day/night so far. Just a quiery on people's opinions/ideas on something. I am interested in making a perminent mark on my body but I do not like the 'blurryness' of a brand scar not the thought of a wrinkled old tattoo. I was thinking of a cut-scar. I used to work as a first aider and when going to Big Day Out concerts and similar type events I treated a lot of people [not for] but who had neat tidy scars on their wrists from cutting themselves. I was wondering what the community's opinions and ideas were on intentionally cutting the skin in a certain way to make a mark? It seems to be more precise then burn scars and when you're old and wrinkly it would just look like a scar as a pose to a bluey smudge. I think I would get it done on my ankle/foot....

cute, if I owned you I would beat you for it....

you might come to me with a lot of that asswipe and it is gonna be catch as catch can. but do I really care what  you think pretty?

Think along those lines if you look to be owned.

In that way, you do not want to differentiate yourself among the crowd.

Depends on what you want.  When someone wants to permant mark another person that is one way they do it.

The way I look at it is I am a slave...and once I find my Owner for life....he is the only one that has the right to mark me that way.  SO I have kept my body free of any marks that I had a choice in.

I have lots of scars from surgeries....I dont' think they are pretty in any way shape or form.

Hate to tell you this, but scars on the elderly are 'wrinkly' and puckered, too.  Especially the ones they got as young'uns.

You may have seen other's with neat and tidy cut marks, but that doesn't mean your body will heal in the same way.  Scars (and the body) are funny that way.  Sometimes they heal smoothly, sometimes they don't.  Even a perfectly straight line can close and heal to form several short ones, or a nice neat pretty line at one end, and a puckered bulge at the other.  When you break the skin, you open your body up to infections that can affect the healing process.

If you're wanting to mark yourself, it might be a good idea to wait until you're in a relationship that's gone the distance...y'know, so you aren't having to explain 'what this mark means' to future partners.  (Of course, this is assuming you aren't already in this type of relationship.  That's the impression I got from your post about you wanting to mark yourself.)

Regardless of what you use as a mark, it should mean something to you.  Then, even when you are old and wrinkly, you can look at your puckered scar, burn, or tattoo, and remember the person who put it there.  It's the symbol to the both of you that matters.

That's what matters to you.

She seems more interested in the mark itself than the mark as a symbol.

Since it her body under discussion, maybe what matters to her should be allowed some priority,

I thought that I should clarify this a little more. In answer to the post where it was mentioned that scars look old and wrinkly on an older person too.....I realise this but it will just look like a scar vs an inky smudge. It would be much more subtle when I got to that point. That's what I meant by that.
Secondly, I'm not getting marked by someone else, nor am I planning on marking someone else. I thought that this forum would be a good place to ask peoples opinions/ideas and information about such things as it is done as a sort of tradtion in BDSM. Even though my mark would be completely unrelated to the lifestyle.
I can understand your want to leave your body unmarked until you find the right Master and then only if they want to mark you. I do not think the same way. As far as I see it, I am not attached to anyone at the moment so it is my body and I can do what I like with it without thinking about anybody's personal opinions. If I was owned, it would be a different story.
You're quite right. I don't want it to be symbolic. I want a picture on my skin. It would mean something to me that nobody else would need to know about but could ask if they wanted. I would not get it done purely for the sake of having a mark that means something. I have scars that mean things that occured naturally- not purposefuly. Having said that...its a mark for me NOT other people.
Having read what Mnottertail has written, it makes me think..."well if people can't accept me for what I've done/am then they aren't the right person." If I was in a relationship that looked like the other person would become my Master, I don't think it's fair that they'd say no because I had marked myself. All those people out there who are in relationships who had gotten tattoos as younger people...I am sure their Doms didn't differentiate between marked and unmarked. However, if it was a mark from being owned (which it is not) I could understand that point of view.

The whole purpose of me posting this message was to mainly find out information about scarring from cuts and possibly links to different sites and so forth that might offer more information on the hows, the whats and the final products. Unfortunately due to certain social opinions the only responses I have gotten are about why I shouldn't get it done (mainly due to what my future Doms may think) and the importance of the meaning behind the physical act of getting it done (again this must be shared with my Dom). Noah and sexyone4you...thank you for being otherwise.

To make a point. I don't care if Doms don't want to be with me because I have marked myself...they are obviously not the right person to spend my life with. A person's body is their temple. If they wish to decorate it with fine silks or live with the bare minimum that is their choice. You can't judge them for that.

Just think of the scar when you have gained 50 pounds and your skin stretches.  Take that into consideration.  What is it going to look like then?

I fully agree with this.
I have a couple small scars on my thigh from a cane I did not consent to.
Other than that I do not want to just be randomly marked.
I want to wait till I've been owned by someone about 5 years and then be branded on my butt by my Master.
If I ended up with a Master into cutting I'd want to wait at least a year of small surfical cutting to be sure I planned on being his long term then I'd be ready for deeper cuts that left permanent scars. Even then I'd prefer to only be scarred where a t-shirt and panties could cover it up.
Scarring yourself is OK, but it has no big factor of submission involved for me.
Bein marked as your owners property vs just because I think it's cool is where I'd personally want to go with that.
If I'm scarred I want it to bear the weight of a significant intense bonding between me and the person making the permanent mark.

I just can't see carrying the marks of a stranger, or myself and enjoying that.
I do have two tattoos though, so I've been permanently marked by them.
Cutting and branding to me seem way different than tattoos.

Reply to OP:

Your best bet for a long-lasting 'marking' is a tattoo.

A cut scar will fade with time.  And so will a tattoo to some degree, but you can always get it touched up.  As far as putting it on your ankle or foot area, you wouldn't have to worry much about sagging or wrinkling skin in that area.

There's a lot of people who are into body modification for the sake of body modification itself.  Most people who mark themselves for the purpose of this lifestyle, it will be for their partner.

Have a look at http://www.bmezine.com for information on all of it.  You'll find information on branding, cutting, tattooing...and there are personal experiences on them as well.  It's a huge source of information on body modification by itself.

Our Lord has done some of cuttings on kyra and me

one was done with a knife that covered most of my back.... the rose design from the Kushiel book series.  This faded after a couple of months and will have to be redrawn and cut with a scalpel a couple more times to scar. This cutting healed white and was not raised at all.

The one on my thigh is the same as on kyra's thigh.... it is crossed swords, approx 4" by 4". On me it was done with a scalpel, just cutting the layers of skin and not the muscle.  This cutting healed brown, slightly raised and does not seem to be fading at all. *ss*

both cuttings done on me the skin was cleaned and sanitized before the cutting was done and hand sanitizer rubbed into it after the cutting was finished. *puurrrrr* i like that feel the nice deep burn it leaves.

These marking have significance to us in our relationship.... the crossed swords are His mark on us. The rose is his symbol for me. for me personally i would not look at getting something placed on me unless it had special meaning to me.

Thank you, but I don't plan on gaining 50 pounds...but thanks for the encouragement. I don't want a tatoo because it will look like an inky splotch when I get old and wrinkly. Where as a purposeful scar when I'm old and wrinkly...can be claimed to be just a scar..that was never really an image in the first place.
I feel sorry that you do not thin kof your scars as a thing of beauty. I have naturally occuring scars and I find them beautiful.
Thank you to moonspirit43, that is exactly what I was after.

There are a couple of things with cutting.

Most areas of the body are curved to some extent. This can make it difficult for a novice to get a uniform depth to the cut over an extended or elaborate pattern. If you're cutting an area with very little fat and muscle, such as the foot and ankle, this can be dangerous.

People heal in very different ways. In general, however, a thin, precise, scalpelled cut will be healed to the point of invisibility in a couple of years at most, a couple of weeks in other cases. Ritualized cuttings in pre-industrial societies were usually done with broader objects, and the wounds treated with ash, or consistently irritated during healing to make them more permanent. This tends to result in a broader and lumpier scar. As alandraofmists mentioned, the other way to do it is to cut the same area repeatedly, but again, this will gradually make the lines thicker and less sharp.

Tattooing technology has improved in the past few decades, so the old-timers you see with dull, blotchy tats from their Army days are not necessarily your best point of comparison. Also, taking care of your skin will reduce fading and blurring. However, they are of course difficult to DIY.

Your best bet may actually be a cautery pen brand... they can be fairly precise, and are a lot more likely than a single blade to leave a lasting mark.

Just a few thoughts on the matter... best wishes to you on your bodyart.

I have a tat that is 28 years old and looks as fresh as the day it was laid. The trick is to get an artist that does all single needle work, or who is willing to do that on you. It is the colors that are laid down with a multi prong needle that does not penetrate as deeply as a single needle that fade.

And as long as you place it well wrinkles are not an issue.

Have you any scars already? Because some people scar in fine lines and others form keloids, raised lumpy scars. It woould be a shame for you to attempt to make a fine line and discover instead you had given yourself an unsightly one.If you don't already know if you are prone to keloids, you may discover this the hard way.

I have had a couple of cuttings done now...the last one being just this weekend it is of a collar on my left shoulder. Sir has said we can redo it several times if I want to make it permanent. I want *weg*. I love cutting I love the feel of the drag of the scalpel across my skin and the burn of the alcohol afterwards to clean it. Just be careful and have someone do it who knows what they are doing.

i love the feel of the alcohol or hand sanitizer after the cutting... usually get it sprayed on a couple of times afterward. i find that the burn and sting makes me purr.

now for the feel of the blade cutting my skin..... that is a sensation that i really hate....it is all i can do to hold still and not thrash against the blade... once the blade is tooken away from the skin.... the need to shake or shiver that area of skin is alomst uncontrolable.

this is one sensation that my Lord does, that the responce is always tears and cries of pain..... but once the alcohol is placed on.... mmmmm... purring and a drifting with the endorphins.
