This is the net....the adage about what happens to a fool and his money applies here even more regularly than in real life.

Guess you will be a bit more cautious next time.

I have, in need of an apt description of the internet for family and friends not as experienced with it as I, likened it to the seediest, grimiest, most cheatful neighborhoods you can imagine...  And that's in the respectable places.

Requests for a ticket should be met, if at all, with a non-refundable ticket.  Better yet, go and visit.

I've always wondered about that. Why wouldn't a prospective Dom want to come pick up his/her sub in person, and thus have the added benefit of seeing what kind of conditions this person comes from to understand their background better.

That, and it virtually eliminates the risk. A scammer would probably not accept such an offer, unless they're planning on robbing your house (has happened to some), and there are other ways to deal with that.

i think scammers name should be posted as long as ther is prof of the scam....

There cannot be reasonably proof online. Bear in mind that there are legal standards of  guilt, and without meeting those (which will result in a conviction), anything else is slander.

That, and it is legally very much in a gray area for a forum to permit such posts, which is why the CollarMe terms-of-service include a prohibition against this, I would imagine.

Never  give money to anyone. Ever. Period. Keep it all - and spend it all on fun things.. like clothes, books, music, floggers, chocolate ice cream, oh and send some to me. Thanks. I need some ice cream.

I agree and about 50% of them here are scamers...BH

Greetings BH,

I would say that 50% on this side are scammers. Go over to the other side and I'll bet that number increases dramatically........

Wait a minute! Are you people telling me that that 18 year old gorgeous Nigerian girl who's coming to serve in my house (as soon as my personal check for $10,583.46 [American] clears) is not really on her way?

The way I understood it, the 6-8 weeks was to make sure that my check cleared and they wanted to be sure that my American money would be accepted in Argentina (that's the country that doesn't have an extradition agreement with us. Right?).

Oh, well. I hear Russian brides are cheaper and more willing to serve, anyway.

lol - if you need a "scammers list" - pack up your box and send it back to the manufacturer. you're too stupid to own a computer. you'd be better off without it.

if someone has you on voice or cam - but won't appear themselves... "redflag"

if there's any money exchange for any reason... "redflag"

tribute... "redflag"

lordy... people this is not ancient wisdom here i'm not making this stuff up.

if you're going to meet someone - sure perhaps it's fair to pay their cab fare or even plane fare - understandable. but don't send it in advance this should be common sense. otherwise don't be surprised if you get had for whatever amount.

btw - mister legality up there... "aswad" - slander is spoken... you're talking about libel - which is written.

besides - if collarme wanted to avoid problems and still impliment a system - all they have to do is put a button called "make scam public" - and the server can post a controlled forum statement that says " 'bob' sent 'sally' the email below - 'sally' claims that this may be a scam of some kind - you be the judge" this would be followed by a disclaimer that releases collarme from any action against them for libel. sally should also be required to go read a disclaimer and perhaps fill out a "verification" of some kind before she starts slinging it.

the trick is - sally cannot edit bob's words. she can only post exactly what he said in his email. and her name is up there too. she's putting herself in the hotseat if she's crying wolf.

that is simply one way to make an attempt at a scammer list. you as a forum user have the option of searching the posts in the "scammer" thread and if the name of the person you're talking to is there - you can read what's been posted about that user.

There's an old quote (and forgive me but, I forget to whom it is attributed): "The best defense against slander/libel is if you're telling the truth". You are only guilty of slander/libel when you know that what you are saying about someone isn't true and when you're operating out of malice.

It's really simple. I understand that collarme need protect themselves (for our sake, as well as theirs) but, a post like the following (I'll do it, in red) is completely legit.

quote:

ORIGINAL:Satyr6406
I sent Satyr6046 $800.00 to get on a plane and come to me so that we could indulge in some hot, sweaty monkey love and some BDSM activity. He didn't show up. I haven't heard from him. I hope he's not hurt or dead.

I BELIEVE I have been scammed. I can't prove it but, I have laid out the facts.

The facts are laid out. The conjecture/opinion is clearly stated as such. No harm/no foul.

agreed - moreover - instead of leaving these things up for interpretation of the user - the mail system which is already set up can be used to basically ensure that there's no information "lost in translation" - by automating the posts and having it be based on what you have recieved. you the reader can be ensured as best as possible to be getting the exact words of the sender (possible scammer) - keeps the riffraff from attempting to defame another.

i understand that some stories require more than one email to "explain" - so perhaps you could attach several emails together with the checkboxes and post them as scam simultainously...

i also understand that my idea is not perfect - however it has many extra precautions to protect the admin, the scammer and the scammee - since neither one can be misrepresented by "opinion" or unnecessary information.

Fast Reply_  To the 2 last posters; and you think this would be done in light of your HUGE NONEXISTENT membership fees?  How about everybody being adults and taking care of themselves.  The folks that need watchdogs might ought to go to another site, if they need some to look out for them that badly.

To expound on the scenario listed;

if Sally sent this scam alert, then would not there also need to be verification of the 800$ sent to post the notice, or you would still get some lying about what they did do.  Let's say that the 800 was an agreed upon fake tribute, and the sender got upset and had remorse, but didnt want to admit it, so they just "adjusted" the facts a bit, and said there was supposed to be a visit when in fact they weren't, and committed liable and now the other one wants to sue them.  Are they going to look to Collarme to provide real name and address?

I can't personally see how anyone could expect a site, even a paid one, to keep up with that resulting mess, and all the subsequent complaint emails sent to the mods and support.
