I know not everyone approves of smoking, but I have had some people I have been talking to mail me to tell me that if we meet, I can't smoke! What kind of presumptious bullshit is that? I have even had a few I have never even talked to message me to tell me how gross they found it! WTF is that?

Shows they aren't compatible nor likely very respectful of someone else's choices and preferences that don't actually even affect them. Ignore it and focus on those who are compatible and soon enough the others will leave you alone when you ignore and don't react.

Status: offline 		though i'm nonsmoker, i would politely ask if you couldn't smoke when we meet or meet in a place that allows smoking (which is becoming very few these days) ...i wouldn't just say "hey you cannot smoke around me".

Status: offline 		My basic response has been that smoking is a part of who I am, good or bad, and that if they choose not to meet because of it, too bad. I just find it amazing that someone would even presume to tell me what habits are acceptable. But some people like it*smiles* and they will be rewarded generously for the support they have given.

Status: offline 		And I would never dream of blowing smoke in a non-smokers face. If I smoke around non-smokers, it is outside where it does not affect them. I don't even sit in the smoking section in resturants.

i had a "dom" note me a couple of months ago to tell me that if i was his "girl" i would be over his knee and spanked for being so opinionated and disrespectful on the forums.  i merely replied back, "oh yeah, who i would want to be your "girl" in the first place"- block him ever since

Status: offline 		hello CD & Sari hope you are well, the debate about smoking & the smoking ban to my view is an infringement on peoples rights, bars and pubs have always had smokers in and everyone knew what they were getting into and had the choice, come in or not, i'm sure they could have just had non-smoking sections but then the over sensitives complain about passive smoking and also they feel excluded but ironically they are excluding smokers, that or forcing change upon them for their own good which i find goes against their own beliefs. I personally don't smoke but have enough common sense that if i had a problem with smoking i just wouldn't sit near someone who smoked but it's gone way too far now and i hope this ban produces a fierce backlash.

I don't shove my smoking in other's faces so I do not tolerate their lack of courtesy and respect for my preferences in trying to tell me what I can and cannot do. I have a very very close friend and she and I try to get together once a month. She is allergic to cigarette smoke. I do not smoke in her home, car, in resturants but will outside away from her, and she just follows me staying where the breeze blows it away from her and chatters away lol.

and nice post ....... I don't know how the attitude towards smoking is in the United States, but here in Canada society is frowning on it more and more.  The city I live in - and most others around me in Alberta - have gone smoke free in public places.  And after years of my mom light up when I was only half done my dinner.  Don't get me wrong please - I have nothing against the people - I smoked on and off for 20 years - started in grade 7.  But with cancer rates up and health care costs rising - this is an issue that needs to be dealt with across the board.

Here endeth today's lecture.
