Reading just 'RE: what makes Gor special?' is
inflammatory by nature and automatically puts Goreans on the defense.

I disagree with this completely. Being defense is a choice and one has to allow oneself to get defensive. The onus is on those who get that way, not on a simply query of one seeking some education. I do believe, there are those who enjoy putting bait on a hook to see what they catch, but if one doesn't wade into those waters, one can't be caught on the hook.

I don't personally think that Gor is more special than any other way of living, I think that it is a more rigid, enforced & aware way of living. It is more self concious. Sigh I am unsure of my wording here lol.

Even taking the cavaet into consideration, I disagree with this as well. Gor is not more rigid, enforced or a more aware way of living than any other way of living. It is simply people who are what they are, living life the way they are meant to live it. There are some who instill protocols and rituals within their personal relationship dynamics but that's a people thing, not a Gor, M/s or any other thing. There are those who are vanilla and have just as much structure and rigidity, who are just as self-aware as any who are followers of Gorean philosophy's. Again, it's a people thing. Some choose such structures, some don't.

Gor has a host of books to rely upon, to quote from & to emulate. That to me is what the biggest difference is, they pretty much have a guide to live by.

No different than people who write their own guides and live by those standards. One is simply following an ethos which was written by someone else and which speaks to them on a personal level and the other are people who establish their own ethos which speaks to them on a personal level.

As for lurking in their forum? Well I have learned a lot. I had the typical feeling of Gor=Yuck, resulting from idiots in chat rooms. For years that had been my only exposure aside from reading the first five or so books as a teen. But watching and reading their forum made me see them in a different way.

::chuckles:: I never had a yuck feeling about Gor so don't know if that's something which is typical, but I've met Goreans who I hold in great regard and Goreans who I'm surprised can tie their own shoes. I've met M/s, vanillas and goths etc. about whom I feel exactly the same.

I see their slavery in a different way. It used to 'look' degrading and pretty awful all the way around. By reading there for months I finally managed to get that view turned around.

I find that an interesting perception. I see such slavery as very similar in nature, attitude and action as I see M/s slavery. I would be hard pressed to come up with differences, but could probably list several similarities between the slaves of Gorean's and the slaves of non-Goreans as it relates to my personal experience as the slave of a non-Gorean.

It is foolish and time consuming to continue the battle of the WIITWD between Gor n BDSM'ers. They are not the same.

With this I agree. Gor is not BDSM but then I don't think of M/s as BDSM either. To me, BDSM encompasses activities whereas Gor, M/s and even Vanilla are living who you are so as to remain true to yourself.

I am sorry that you ended up being the example on this. It just happens so frequently & it causes the really good stuff to get lost in the snarky comebacks. In no way am I saying you do this on a regular basis okay? You just happened to the be the one here lol, it happens in nearly every thread.
Maybe I should just put it down to a pet peeve. It was not meant personally towards you.

I lurk in the Gorean forum a lot & it is rare for things to turn hostile. The BDSM forums on the other hand often turn nasty.

*imo & my only statement lol.

Maybe things have changed in the Gor rooms since I was in them months ago, but it seems the flame wars go on in both the BDSM and Gor rooms to me without any noticeable distinction between the forums as far as flaming goes.

Eating vanilla sure covers it for me.

Enjoy the vanilla.

Celeste

I come back to this thread now and again, find it interesting...

However, I can't resist... I happen to love good vanilla, especially expensive vanilla beans when I bake... I also only buy the best vanilla extract I can find and put a vanilla bean in the bottle... Have you ever had ice cream and can actually see the black flecks in it... mmmmm... oh, and French Vanilla too... so good... have to try making them sometime again only sugar-free

Ok, that was my attempt at light-hearted humor   back to reading

And that is why it is my opinion BitaTrouble. It is simply my view on things and of course that doesn't cement anything as a truth lol, just my view.
I disagree with your disagreements et al.

Fair enough and well said, cjenny. I fully support your right to your opinion. :)

Greetings cjenny,

its not taken as personal.
MasterOmega expects her to 'dispel any notions' even tho people will believe and like whatever they choose, whether its food, or movies or music we all are who we are and live life as we see fit.

wishing you well
