It may depend on the individuals involved. For me it is part of who I am but by no means the whole of who I am. I did not choose to be like this but am happy with me the way I am, much the same way a mistress is happy with herself. There is an amount of mutual dependency between the roles for either or both dom and cd to be fulfilled. It is about both parties but to varing degrees. Both should understand and accept the motivating force driving each other. As MS Isabelle stated, if dressing is all there were to it...do it yourself ; and I agree. It is fun to dress by yourself ( for practice) but does lack purpose and direction. To be able to dress for someone who appreciates, is into it or be dressed by someone and share the experience and whatever may result from it is exhilirating. To get dressed is nice, to get dressed and serve someone who supports this preference is heavenly. It is an art, to try and constantly strive for an unachievable level of excellence in the most sincerest form of flattery....to imitate. I can never be a female, even if I would have the sugeries I could only come closer, but never reach that excellence. The best I can do is to serve a GG and offer myself to her. If she prefers me as a male so be it, it is her choice. If she desires me enfemme, it is my fortune and I will try even harder as tribute to her for considering my desites too.True, many TV/CD take it to riduculous extremes and make a mockery of  the role. This may suggest that the preference is largely selfserving for just for the (sissy,CD,TV ).I believe for those of us who are serious about it, dressing is just another form of self expression and an extension of ourselves that, like any other trait can either be accepted and embraced or rejected out of hand, depending upon the parties involved and their preferences.

I have asked my sub which he prefers to dress him, and he said a natural born woman. I adore him when he is Chrissy, cutest thin ya ever did see, and he has more passion when dressed!

I would say that the difference between a sissy and a femmed male is the camp factor.

A submissive man in a dress, whether he can pass for a woman or not, can be very attractive. He can still behave like himself, but possibly with a sleeker, more graceful air about him. Or maybe not. Sometimes a skirt -- even with all the applicable foundation wear -- gets treated pretty much like a public-use tartan kilt -- "hey, I'm a guy getting a breeze. whee!"

A sissy seems to go for affectations that specifically lead them to be some specific not-quite-female gender. Given the books I've been reading:
  • high pitched voice
  • elbows close to the sides and limp wrists
  • behaving as a weak and easily paniced person
  • usually acting far younger than their actual age
Sissification seems to involve a specific sort of role play that isn't necessarily in simple cross dressing or even general feminization. So, to answer your question, no -- a femmed up man doesn't have to fall into what I would consider a sissy category.
