I like tv, and one of my favorite shows is The Shield. The new season starts on Tuesday at 10 PM (Eastern US) on FX, and they've been hyping it because Glenn Close is joining the cast as the new precinct captain.

If you've never seen it before, it was inspired by a scandal involving corrupt cops in the Ramparts section of LA (and here's a link about that). So while there are good cops in this show, the central character, Vic Mackey, is both unusually effective at getting the bad guys and not above being a bad guy himself. I especially like that the show is totally unpredictable -- for example, if there is some great plan, it is as likely to go haywire as it is to work. Also, the characters look like like normal people instead of being pretty actors posing like cops, and there's also some politics, ambition and office conflict to spice things up.

Anyway, I think it is wild and intense, but fun because it is unlike anything else I've seen. So after reading this you might want to check it out . . . or avoid it like the plague.
