Hookup ? You mean a reverse disconnect ? It used to be doable I was told by switching wires a certain way, but knowing a little bit of technology, I know it is done at the telco. This only allowed to to not let the caller hang up, this would enable a trace, in the old days you would go to a neighbor's house and use their phone to tell them that you recieved the call and they could then trace it, even if the caller hung up. It's not needed anymore, because caller ID data is always there, but not on your line. Government computers can scan cellphone records so fast, it is only a ten digit string. If they don't find it, do you know anyone living in another country ? Actually they won't go that far unless there are threats or some other reason. Let's put it this way, get practical. Like others have said, I will put my own spin on it now. Anytime you are not going to go out and help a friend with a flat tire or something like that, you have the right not to answer your phone. Even in such a situation, if you do answer the phone you can refuse. You could really be too tired, or if you had some drinks and did not want to drive. Not answering the phone is a valid option. It could well be a wrong number. Actually once I really get to sleep I am very hard to wake up. If you are a light sleeper you might need to shut the ringer off. Actually I don't even have a phone in the bedroom. Even if I woke up, I hope I'm the last person they called. Well, not really. If they are closeby I would. Of course this all depends on whether or not you know people who are out and about in the middle of the night. Of course I am one to talk, I will probably be up till 3 tonight, but it is Friday. And I won't be in any condition to drive. So turn off the ringer. T
